STUDENTS PERFORM AT VOCAL/INSTRUMENTAL LARGE GROUP CONTEST

On Wednesday, April 6, Vermillion High School hosted a Vocal and Instrumental Large Group Contest. Both the Avon High School Choir and 8-12 Band participated in the contest. The goal of the contest was to get judge input to improve each group’s musicianship.

The choir, under the direction of Autumn Schultz, brought both a combined male and female choir, as well as a separate female choir. Mrs. Schultz said, “I would like to give a huge shout out to both my women's choir and my mixed choir for their performances at Large Group. I was approached by one of the judges afterwards stating, ‘That was the best tone and musicality I heard all day!’ That is a huge pat on the back considering the bigger schools we were going up against. Out of three judges, my women's choir got two perfect scores. From my mixed choir, they got one perfect score and a 34/35. These are the highest scores I've received at a Large Group Contest since directing at Avon.”

The band, under the direction of Mataya Larsgaard, brought all of its members in grades 8-12 to perform. The group performed three selections and received an overall score of II.

“Our students have put in a lot of effort and preparation. We are doing some pretty amazing things in this building, I hope we are all taking the time to recognize that!” said Schultz.
