STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN HOMECOMING ACTIVITIES

Homecoming Week, September 6-10, was filled with excitement at the Avon School. Students and staff were busy with many activities including dress up days, the poster contest, talent show, and the parade. The points from the posters, talent show, and dress up days would be added together to award an overall winner.

This year’s senior-selected theme was fast-food. Students could pick any fast-food restaurant or food for their posters and their floats. For their commercials for the talent show, however, each grade was given an option of two fast-food restaurants, and they were able to choose one of them to use for their commercial.

For the poster contest, Grades 7-12 had to make posters based on the theme. They were then hung in the gymnasium and judged. The junior class won the poster contest with the slogan “The Class of 2023 is McLovin’ a Pirate Victory!”

Like the posters, the talent show had to be based on the theme of fast-food restaurants. Each class had to come up with a 1-3 minute commercial for the restaurant that they selected. The talent show was judged by Beth Krcil, Carol Swier, and Ron Swier. In third place was the seventh grade class; in second place was the sophomores, and winning the talent show was the juniors.

This year’s dress up days were Tuesday, Country vs. Country Club; Wednesday, Biker Day, Thursday, Favorite Holiday; and Friday, Red and Gold Day. The winner of the dress up days in the elementary division was second grade, and the overall winner for the week in the 7-12 division was the juniors.

When asked how she felt about the merit, Gretschmann said, “I was honored to be crowned homecoming queen. I was glad to experience my last homecoming with all my friends and classmates.”
