STUDENTS LOOK BACK AT YEAR; COUNTDOWN BEGINS
With Prom over, many students and staff at Avon High School are becoming anxious for the end of the school year. As it turns out, there are less than thirty school days left. Soon, the AHS Class of 2022 will graduate, and the members of the Class of 2023 will gain the coveted title of “senior.” As we look at the milestones of the year, you may recall many of the major events covered by the Jolly Roger.
The school year kicked off with Homecoming and the crowning of Katie Gretschmann and Eli Watchorn as Homecoming queen and king. The Pirate football team fell one win short of a chance to compete in the state championship, and the Lady Pirate volleyball team lost seven seniors at the conclusion of the season. Four students participated in All-State Choir in Rapid City. Students participated in State Oral Interp; the One-Act Play earned a Superior rating at State; and the Lady Pirate basketball team made it to the SoDak Sixteen. Two Avon athletes competed at the State Wrestling Tournament. Republicans won the senior mock election. Musicians have participated in concerts in the fall, winter, and spring with the Pops’ Concert to take place on April 28. The Prom theme this year was “Unlock the Enchanted Night,” and let’s just say the night was definitely enchanting. The first track meet occurred April 5, and graduation is set to take place May 15. The school year ends on May 17, and with that will come the goodbyes of the senior class and a few beloved teachers.
Senior Tiffany Pelton summed the year up best when she said, “It went by so fast. The lasts have been hard, but I am excited for what the future has in store.”
In less than thirty school days, the school year will come to a conclusion. Hopefully, the year to come will provide just as exciting a recap as the one summed up above.
