SPOTLIGHT SHINES ON SENIOR MEGAN SOUKUP

Megan Jo Soukup, daughter of Shirley and Troy Soukup, was born on August 25, 2003. She has two brothers, Cody and Trenton and one sister Ashley.

Her favorite subject in school is her college class “Lifespan Development” through SDSU. She enjoys learning about how we humans grow and develop throughout our lives. Her most challenging task as a senior is trying to juggle three college classes each semester along with extra-curricular activities while making time to visit friends outside of school and working at her part-time job. Her favorite high school activities are archery, cross country, oral interpretation, and doing stats for volleyball and girls basketball. If she could give any advice to the underclassmen, it would be, “Don’t stress about all the chaos. Take a deep breath and work through it. Also set aside time for dual credit classes.” Soukup will miss seeing her friends everyday. Soukup said, “Our class is so close to each other. You could go to anybody, and you can count on them to help you with whatever you need.” One thing she regrets is working too much. She could’ve spent way more time with her friends. AHS has prepared Soukup by trying to manage stress when there is limited time. She will never forget the very crowded hallways and the “fatiguing” climb up the stairs multiple times a day. Soukup will never forget her friends and the many memories she made with them.

Soukup likes gardening, hunting, fishing, baking, farming/ranching, hanging out with her friends, making memories, and playing with her baby calves in her spare time. Her proudest moment in life thus far is enlisting in the Army National Guard. Her role model is her mom. Soukup’s mom is the busiest woman she knows. She knows how to manage four kids along with work, the Avon/Dante Pink Ladies, and work on the farm with her father which is a lot of work. Soukup’s future plans are to attend Dakota Wesleyan University for elementary education.

The quote Soukup lives by is, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” -Mark Twain.
