The Southeast Elite 12U traveled to Sioux Calls to compete in the Fastball Frenzy Softball Tournament. Elite 11, Badgers 14 In the first game, the Elite fell to the NWI Badgers by a score of 14-11. The Elite had a rough first inning given up 7 runs, but then battled back to make it a close game. Leading hitters for the Elite were Leah DeWald and Emersyn Haenfler. Haenfler was also on the hill for the Elite. Elite 3, Outlaws 16 In the second game, the Elite faced a tough Brookings Outlaw Team and lost by a score of 16-3. Elite 6, Phoenix 4 That ended pool play and it looked like the Elite were out of contention. However, on Sunday, the team bounced back on some excellent defensive and pitching to beat the SD Phoenix in a close one by the score of 6-4. Haenfler only walked one batter in five innings and got the win. Leah Dewald was the leading hitter. Stella Ratzlaff, Kensley Devries, and Ashley Soukup made several great catches in the outfield. Dewald and Whitley Wolf turned a sparkling double play in the 3rd to end a Phoenix threat. Elite 1, Outlaws 15 The Elite then had to again face the powerhouse Brookings Outlaws. Despite a homerun by Kensley DeVries they fell by a score of 15-1. Elite 5, Futures 2 In the 3rd place game, the Elite battled back and beat the Sioux City Futures by the score of 5-2. Again excellent pitching and defense was the difference. Haenfler got the win on the mound. Kodi Maggs did an excellent job behind the dish preventing many a run from scoring on a pass ball. Thanks to all of the team members and parents for a great weekend. The Elite next play Friday, May 17th against Vermillion at 6:30 p.m. in Avon.
