On July 19th and 20th, the Southeast Elite battled 16 other East river 12U softball teams for the 12U Rec state title.
In game one, the Elite took on the Pheasants from Parker. The Elite scored one in the first when Emersyn Haenfler singled, stole second and scored on a single by Rowan Brandt. In the second the Elite put the game out of reach by scoring 9 runs. Johanna Namminga and Stella Ratzlaff both singled and Ashley Soukup, Whitley Wolf and Shaeleigh Grant all followed with walks. Emersyn drove in one with a single. Then Harper Kracht provided the big blow with a double that cleared the bases. The leading hitters for the Elite were Emersyn, Harper, Rowan, Sydney Johnson who all had 2hits. Kensly DeVries, Johanna Namminga, Stella Ratzlaff, and Whitley Wolf all added 1 hit apiece. Harper pitched 3 innings in a runruled game striking out 4. The final score was Elite 13 and Parker 1.
In Game two, a rough fielding 3rd inning doomed the Elite and led to a 7-6 loss against the Madison Rage. The Elite got on the board first when Sydney Johnson walked, stole second, and scored on two wild pitches. The Rage plated 6 runs in the 3rd on a series of errors and walks by the Elite. The Elite battled back in the bottom of the 3rd when Emersyn Haenfler Singled and was driven in by a double by Harper Kracht. Kensley DeVries then singled driving in Harper. Sydney Johnson tripled scored Kensley and then scored on a wild pitch making the score 6-5. The Elite added one more in the fourth when Ashley Soukup tripled and scored on a wild pitch. However, the Elite surrendered one more run and lost by a final score of 7-6. The leading hitters for the Elite were Emersyn with two hits, Harper with a double and Sydney and Ashley with triples. Kensley added a single. Harper was on the mound striking out three in five innings of work. This put the Elite in the loser’s bracket.
In game three, the Elite bounced back in a big fashion by beating Flandreau 17-4. The Elite put the game out of reach by scoring 8 runs in the top of the first. Emersyn and Harper both singled and Rowan walked loading the bases. Sydney then doubled scoring two. After a fly ball and strikeout, Ashley singled scoring two. Later Shaeleigh walked and Harper cleared the bases with a double. Leading hitters were Harper with 2 doubles and single, Emersyn with two singles and Sydney with a double. Rowan, Kensley, and Ashley all had one single. Harper pitched three innings striking out five and Emersyn pitched the last inning in a mercy rule win.
On Saturday, the Elite continued their battle back through the loser’s bracket. They first faced a team from Volga at 8:00 am! The Elite scored 9 runs in the first inning on singles by Emersyn, Stella, Shaeleigh and double by Sydney. Leading hitters were Emersyn and Shaleigh with two hits and a two-bagger for Sydney. Harper, Rowan, Stella, Johanna, and Whitley all added one hit a piece. Harper pitched three innings in a shortened mercy rule game striking out 6. Next up were the Mitchell Sparks. Again, the Elite struck quick scoring two runs in the first. Emersyn walked and was driven in by a double by Harper. Rowan singled scoring Harper. The Elite added 6 more in the second when Johanna Walked, Ashley singled and Emersyn walked. Rowan singled driving in one. Kensley followed with a triple which cleared the bases. Next, Rowan singled and was driven in by a triple by Stella. Leading hitters for the Elite were Harper with three doubles, Rowan with three singles, Kensley with a single and a triple, and Ashley with a single and a double. Stella added a triple and Sydney had a single. Harper was on the mound for the shortened game. She struck out 4 in four innings of work.
The Elite next faced a second team from Volga called the Outsiders. The Elite struck for four runs in the first when Emersyn singled, Harper reached on an error, Rowan walked and Kensley cleared the bases with a triple. Sydney then drove in Kensley with a single. The Outsiders fought back and took a 5-4 lead in the 3rd. In the bottom of the third, The Elite went back on top due to back to back triples by Kensley and Rowan. They added 4 more in the fourth when Emersyn singled, Harper doubled, Rowan tripled and Kensley singled. Leading hitters were Kensley with two triples and a single, Rowan with two triples, and Emersyn with two singles. Sydney also added a single. Harper pitched 6 strong innings, striking out three and walking zero. Kensley DeVries also threw out three would be bases stealers.
The Elite next faced a rematch with the Madison Rage. The Elite scored in the first when Emersyn walked and was driven in by a single by Kensley. In the second they added another run when Stella tripled and was driven in by a single by Whitley. They added one more in the 3rd when Stella doubled and Ashley followed with a run producing single. However, the Rage scored 3 in the 4th making the scored 5-3 Rage. The Elite bounced back and scored 5 in the fifth. Emersyn led off with a walk followed by a single by Rowan and another walk to Kensley. Johanna Namminga walked forcing in a run and then Ashley delivered a huge two out double. They added three more in the sixth on a triple by Kensley and single by Sydney and held on to win 11-8. Leading hitters were Ashley with two singles and a double, Stella with a triple and double, Kensley with a triple and single. Rowan, Sydney, and Whitley each added a single. Harper pitched another 6 strong innings striking out five and walking four.
That put the Elite in the Championship game against the Elk Point Jefferson Huskies. The Elite quickly fell behind 8-0. However, they battled back to a score of 9-7 but eventually lost 11-7 when the clock expired at 80 minutes. Leading hitters were Kensley with a double and Stella with a single. Harper pitched the first 3 innings and Emersyn pitched the last two. The Elite ended the tournament with a record of 6-2 and finished as the State Runner up Champions for the second year in a row.
