SOUTH DAKOTA YOUTH OF THE YEAR - MACKENZIE HAVRANEK
Mackenzie Havranek was named South Dakota’s 2020 Youth of the Year, which is the highest honor presented by Boys and Girls Clubs.
Mackenzie, representing the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Missouri River Area in Wagner, was one of three finalist who were selected based on their academic record, community involvement and involvement in their local club. The finalists spent two days in Pierre being interviewed by a panel of judges and meeting dignitaries like the Governor and legislatures.
Mackenzie, has been a Boys & Girls Club member since 2016 and has volunteered many hours at the club. She is a senior at Wagner High School and currently works the front desk at the club, while maintaining a 3.5 GPA.
Mackenzie’s future plans are to attend the University of South Dakota to major in psychology.
She will now compete at the Midwest Regional competition in June in Chicago, IL. The Regional Youth of the Year that is selected will then compete in Washington D.C. in September for the National Youth of the Year.
