SESSIONS BY THE LAKE
Have you ever wondered what “Sessions By The Lake” is? If you have, you could have found out the answer by attending the first of three “Free” evening concerts that are being held at the shelter next to Wagner Lake. The eventing started off with a “Bean Bag Tournament” with those involved chasing a $50 first prize for the first place team. In addition great food was provided by Beefy’sTacos” and the featured musical act for the evening was Uncle Roy and The Boys playing some great old time rock-n-roll and country hits. The music was great and a better evening could not have been possible with a nice breeze coming off of the lake. The free evening concerts are being held on three consecutive Thursday nights starting at 6:30. The event is held near the playground equipment so parents can easily enjoy the event and also be able to keep an eye on there children as well. The weekly concerts are hosted by the 605 Unity Team and provided by the same sponsors who made the 605 Unity Jam possible this past June. The sponsors involved with the 605 Unity Jam were not aware that they also got the opportunity to be the sponsors of the additional concerts as well. We are fortunate to have such outstanding sponsors involved with the Unity Team. Whether or not you attended the evening concert or not, please take a moment to check out the Wagner Announcer for concert details and the listing of our sponsors. Also take some time this week to stop in and thank them for caring so much about our community. Without this support, these kinds of events cannot be held. If you have ever commented “there is nothing to do in a small town” then you are advised to begin reading the paper, looking at the Announcer or reading the posters around town or asking questions so you do not miss any more of these special nights before they are gone.
This week will feature some more great music just before the Labor Day week end kicks off. This is also a chance to support area students who will be serving some great food as part of a fund raiser for them to gain funding for a special trip they will be involved with next summer. If you cannot attend, then come by to pick up a meal to go so you can still support what they are doing and maybe get a moment to enjoy a song or two as you pick up your meal. If the concerts help create a positive evening activity for the community then the Unity Team will begin looking for plans to expand this programing more next summer. If you get the chance check out this month’s “South Dakota Magazine” and see a picture of the 605 Unity Jam listed in the magazine that is on it’s way to 164,00 homes in the United States, Canada and Europe. What will be the outcome of this kind of attention is yet to be seen, but it can only be great for Wagner. Please take the time to support our food vendors, our musicians and help us work for more unity and understanding within our community. Building a better tomorrow requires we do some serious work today. Lets work together whenever possible for that tomorrow that is coming, whether we are ready or not. Let’s be known for the good we can do for our community as we can never unsee the negative that is sometimes present in today’s world.
