On Thursday, July 10, Wagner’s Post 11 Senior Legion team traveled to Geddes to take on the Platte-Geddes Whitecaps. What was a close game throughout the first six innings turned out to be 13-3 win for Wagner.
Edward Ulrich started on the bump for Wagner. He pitched three innings giving up three earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three. Joey Cournoyer then came on to pitch four perfect innings as no Whitecap batter would reach base against him. He struck out six of the twelve batters he faced.
At the dish, Frank Soukup was the hot hitter as he had three hits, including two doubles. He scored twice and had one RBI. Carter Cournoyer and Dominic Doom had two hits apiece with Doom mashing an RBI double over the leftfielder’s head and collecting an RBI. Carter knocked in two and scored a run. Joey Cournoyer and Malakai Segura each had a hit and an RBI. Javian Pesicka doubled, drove in two runs and scored once. Octavian Kocer had a hit while Edward Ulrich walked three times and scored twice. Landon Mudder and Beau Otte both walked twice and scored once.
These senior legion boys have one regular season game left to play (the games scheduled to be played against Salem have been canceled due to Salem’s VFW teeners starting their post-season that day), at home against Tabor this Friday. Their post season will begin on July 22 as they play Scotland-Menno- Canistota-Freeman at 6:00 in Platte.
