On Monday, June 3, Wagner VFW Post 7319’s 14U and 16U Teener teams opened their seasons by hosting Wessington Springs. Both teams came away with wins. The 14U squad earned an 8-1 win while the 16U team triumphed by a 15-1 count.

The 14U team used six hits, eight walks, and two hit batsmen to score their eight runs. Beau Otte collected two hits including a triple while driving in two runs. Steven Peters also tripled in the game and drew a walk. Ruger Loeffler and Lacen Sully each singled and scored. Edward Ulrich singled, walked, drove in two runs and scored two runs. Colton Zephier and Ethan Gabel each scored a run as well.

Ulrich would earn the win on the mound as he went three innings giving up no runs on one hit while striking out six and walking no one. Zephier finished up by throwing two innings. He gave up one earned run while walking one and striking out three.

In the nightcap the 16U team only collected two hits yet scored their 15 runs by taking advantage of 15 walks and three hit batsmen to earn their 15-1 victory. Brady Cournoyer smacked a bases loaded double to clear the bases while Colton Zephier hit an opposite field single to plate a run.

Frank Soukup started and pitched two perfect innings, striking out two. Preston McFayden came on to pitch the next two frames and gave up one earned run while striking out three and hitting two batters. Cournoyer pitched the fifth and final inning and struck out the side.
