Sara is currently in her fifth year as business manager of the Avon School District. Sara was nominated by her superintendent, Tom Culver, and highlights of his nomination of Sara are below:

“In the short time that Sara has been our Business Manager, she has proven to be an asset to our school with her knowledge, work ethic and commitment to our community.

In Sara’s role as Business Manager, she is always looking for ways to improve the educational experience of our students, while being fiscally responsible. On a regular basis we often have conversations thinking “outside the box”, on how we can make the best use of our resources and make our school more marketable to our constituents. Sara also does a great job of providing myself and the school board detailed data on our current budget year, but also provides spreadsheets that give five year trends and possible future scenarios. Sara also helps make my job easier in one of my roles as the Superintendent. Many times when I travel to Pierre to testify before Legislative Committees, Sara provides me with valuable data and information that I am able to share with the Legislators to drive home the point of my testimony.

Sara’s input is valued by many of her business official peers. Sara has learned the in’s and out’s of her profession quickly and others recognize her knowledge and seek her advice.

Sara is also a vital part of the Avon community. Sara performs various volunteer activities within our community and county. The following is a list of some of the volunteer activities in which Sara is involved:

Teaches high school CCD classes

On the board for the Bon Homme County Food Bank

Head of the Avon School Backpack Program (food packs for low income students)

Besides these activities, Sara also is an Oral Interpretation Coach and Prom Advisor for our school.

She is an outstanding business manager for our school, a vital part of our community and an outstanding person. ”
