National Bus Driver Appreciation Day is April 23rd this year. The Wagner Community School bus drivers deserve to be appreciated and recognized for their unwavering contributions to the Wagner school and students. The WCS bus drivers transport the most precious cargo, the WCS, students, every day to make sure that the students of Wagner have the opportunity to get a good education that will prepare them for their future. WCS currently has nine bus drivers including Terry Hollmann, Kevin Andersh, Todd Johannsen, Tom Cartney, Steven Koupal, Brenton Fuchs, Lenny Gramkow, Jeff Stucky, and Rodney Dally.

Kevin Andersh
Kevin Andersh has been driving a school bus for WCS for the past 41 years. Kevin started driving as a substitute route driver when he was 18 years old in 1974. He first became interested in driving bus because the schedule allowed for him to work for the school and farm at the same time. When he started the bus drivers did not have any benefits like the drivers do now. For Kevin, the best part of being a bus driver is having former students come up to talk to him years later or when the pre-schoolers tell him that their mom or dad told them that Kevin was their bus driver when they were in school. Normally, Kevin’s day starts at 7 a.m., but does start earlier in the winter months. Kevin is married and he and his wife have three children and nine grandchildren. The best part of being a bus driver for Rodney is getting to greet the students when they get on and off the bus each day. Rodney starts his day very early, getting to the bus barn around 5:40 a.m. Rodney also works as the Technology Director for WCS, so in between bus routes, he is back working at the school.
