The Chamberlain Cross Country Meet, held last Thursday September 15, featured some of the top runners in the state. Pierce Baumberger of Miller ran an impressive 16:49 5K and Isabelle Bloker from Sioux Valley topped the girls field in 18:56.
Anna DeHaan for Andes Central/ Dakota Christian ran a season best in 22:31 and medaled in 20th place. Lexi Schoenfelder finished in 26th out of a field of 65 runners in 22:58 and Eilie DeHaan, also with a season best of 24:02, finished in 34th.
Team scores for the girls were: (1) Chamberlain 12, (2) Kimball/White Lake 25, (3) Ethan/Parkston 29, (4) Sioux Valley 31, (5) Stanley County 58, (6) Andes Central/Dakota Christian 63, (7) Platte-Geddes 67, (8) Miller 70, (9) Burke 86, (10) Mt. Vernon/Plankinton 98, (11) Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 121, (12) North Central 123, and (13) Wessington Springs 129.
Tony Hansum ran a 21:50 in the Boys Varsity to finish in 68th in a field of 96 runners.
“This was no doubt the most competitive meet we have run in this year, commented Coach Larry Lucas. We still look good when we compare where we are with the Class B runners, however, in sports you should always look at your individual competitors from larger schools as equals. Our goal is still to qualify everyone on the team for the State Meet.”
