RUMFORD RETURNS TO THE BURKE STAMPEDE
Ten years ago, The Burke Stampede Rodeo Committee was lucky enough to land a rising star of rodeo…. Justin Rumford from Ponca City, Oklahoma as our rodeo funny man and entertainer. 9 time PRCA Clown of the Year and a set of triplets later, Rumford affectionately known as “Rump” will be returning to the Burke Stampede. We tried several times to get Justin back to the Stampede and this year, WE GOT HIM!!! The Stampede Committee is sooooo excited to bring Professional Rodeo and Professional Entertainment of this caliber to this year’s rodeo. After a trying year off, “Rump” is just what we need to bring the laughter and the party to the Burke Stampede.
Rumford started his rodeo career helping with the family stock contracting business. His grandpa Floyd Rumford started the Rumford Rodeo Company, out of Abbyville, Kansas. Justin’s dad Bronc Rumford carried on the contracting tradition. Justin moved on to steer wrestling and bronc riding in junior high, through high school and landed a full ride scholarship to Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. It was while competing in college, that Justin filled his PRCA card in 1998. Justin made four trips to the College National Finals in both of his events (no easy feat) and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. He went on to have a great career steer wrestling in the PRCA, with many trips to the Prairie Circuit Finals.
In 2010 Rumford knew it was time to move in a different direction. Rather than making his buddies laugh behind the chutes, he wanted to try his hand at making the audiences laugh, and add to the entertainment at the rodeos. It is safe to say that Justin Rumford became a phenom in the rodeo circle and beyond. He is now one of the most decorated entertainers in the history of the PRCA, winning the PRCA Clown of the Year a record breaking nine times (2012-2020). Rumford was the Coors Man In The Can in 2013, 2015, and 2018 and worked the prestigious National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2014 before moving on to host his own NFR preview and live viewing show in Las Vegas. He has now added co-host to his resume with a successful rodeo comedy podcast called “RumpChat” with his buddy Josh “Hambone” Hilton.
Rumford currently lives in Ponca City, Oklahoma with his wife Ashley and his 7 year old triplets, Livi, Lola, and Bandy. “There is nothing more rewarding than being able to do what I love with my family right beside me,” he said. “I’m living my dream!” Our dream is that Justin Rumford will perform before sell-out crowds at this year’s Burke Stampede July 16, 17, and 18, with performances at 7:00 PM each evening at the Stampede Arena, Burke. Advance tickets will be available at various local businesses soon.
