Reported By Linda Soukup

The Wagner Rotary Club bell was rung at twelve noon on Wednesday, April 13th. It was a special day for all members as it was Steak Day. Super Foods of Wagner, along with Scott McAdaragh and his mother Gerri McAdaragh prepared the steaks and all the trimmings.

Rotarian/Pastor Laurie offered up a prayer of Thanksgiving for the moisture we are receiving, the wonderful meal, friends, and family. She asked that we be blessed as Rotarians and use what we learn to go out in our community and world to spread friendship and kindness.

Pastor Laurie made an announcement after the opening prayer about World Day of Prayer which is held around the world and this year it will be observed at the Wagner Armory, on Wednesday, May 6th from 7 to 8 p.m. Everyone was encouraged to attend and to invite family and friends. Our world needs prayer.

Rotarian Ken Cotton was asked to draw a ticket from the Queen of Hearts can and Craig Krsnak held the winning ticket; however, he only drew a 4 of Diamonds. The amount in the Queen’s drawing is estimated to be at about $650.00. There are only 20 cards left to be used from the deck.

Rotarian Ken Cotton gave a Membership Minute on the definition of Rotary. How do you describe the organization of Rotary? There are so many characteristics of a Rotary club as well as the activities of a million Rotarians. There are the features of service, internationality, fellowship, classifications of each vocation, development of goodwill and world understanding, the emphasis of high ethical standards, concern for other people and many more descriptive qualities.

In 1976 the Rotary International Board of Directors was interested in creating a concise definition of the fundamental aspects of Rotary. They turned to the three men who were then serving on Rotary’s Public Relation Committee and requested that a one-sentence definition of Rotary be prepared. After numerous drafts, the committee presented this definition which has been used ever since in various Rotary publications.

“Rotary is an organization of business, and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

President Bryan Slaba took the podium to give a report on the last three weeks of the Board of Directors meetings. Slaba recognized Rotarian Linda Soukup for her cleaning efforts in the Rotary Building.

Slaba is looking for the Rotary Safety Deposit key, members are to go out to the aluminum can trailer after the meeting to load up the horse trailer for delivery to Mitchell.

Members were asked to please turn in their raffle ticket receipts for the Rotary Foundation ASAP.

We are still needing a key for the entrance to the upper floor of our building. If any community member knows who has a key, please contact a Rotarian. This key would be for the long flight of stairs up to the former Duggan Hospital!

There are some changes to our annual Student Scholar Day that have been made due to the current Covid pandemic. Rotarians will meet at the clubhouse for a quick lunch on Wednesday the 5th of May. From there we will proceed as a group to the WCS. There will be no meal this year. There will be 33 student scholars who are the highest ranking scholastically in their grade to receive a certificate of recognition. The Wagner Post will be there to take pictures of the group and the names and pictures will be published in the paper the following week. Please wear your masks. They are mandatory at the school.

Rotarians Becky Brunsing and Rachel Woods have been working hard on preparing for the Rotary Club to start selling the Community Calendars that the Music Boosters used to sell for many years. This will be a fund-raising project for the Rotary Club to aid us in supporting our youth in the future. It will be known as the Rotary Community Club Calendar. There will be more details coming in the futurel
