ROTARY NEWS
The Wagner Rotary Club met for the first time since October 2020 at the Clubhouse on Main Street last Wednesday, March 10, 2021. This was almost a year to the date when meetings were canceled indefinitely last year as the COVID-19 Pandemic began to spread across the country.
President Bryan Slaba rang the bell with gusto. There were 18 members present and members began the meeting by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Pastor Laurie Kidd was called upon to offer a prayer and she echoed everyone’s feelings of gratitude for being together as Rotarians again, and asked for guidance as we go about serving others.
Member fines were suspended for the first meeting and Patty Frei delivered the Treasurer’s report. Members received their latest quarterly dues notices and other bills were discussed. The winners of the football raffle from last fall were never drawn due to our recess last fall. And the winners are:
$100.00 each-Jackson Woods and Jamie Soukup
$200.00 each-Kelsey Doom and Radack Kotab
$300.00 each-Francis Doom and Jeris Timmermans from Corsica
President Slaba explained the new procedures for our meals at future meetings. Valley Pump, Two Spurs, and Booms will be taking turns providing meals on a rotation basis. Scott McAdaragh willbe providing steaks once every quarter for the attendance winners like we did in the past. Rotary Members will be taking turns picking up the meals from the restaurants and taking the containers back after the meeting is over. Dessert was something that all members looked forward to at the meetings.
A decision was reached that members will take turns providing a dessert.
President Slaba brought attention to the fact that our rotation for yearly officers has not been workable due to our absence of meetings. Slaba offered to serve out another Presidents term and the other officers concurred so they will all be serving until July first of 2022. A unanimous ballot was cast for this option.
Other topics of conversation were our District 5610 Raffle, Youth Leadership Awards, our Baseball Shelter at the baseball fields and a new WCS Superintendent. If anyone in the community or in Rotary would like to help David Woods this coming week finish the shelter, please contact David. Our new school superintendent comes from Parkston, Matt Yost. Wagner Rotary also voted to sponsor two boys and two girls for Boys and Girls State Delegates in the summer.
Slaba recognized Bill Frei as being the new Assistant District Governor which brought a round of applause from the club.
It has been quite a few years since the Wagner club has had someone in this position.
The meeting was adjourned by reciting our 4-Way Pledge. Of allthe things we think, say, or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
