President Jamie Soukup called the meeting to order this past Wednesday. Scott Alderink led our group in a prayer before the meeting. Song leader Rachel Woods announced that we would sing “When the Saints Go Marching In.” We did not attempt the second verse!
Rotarian Jeannie Crowe gave a shot at finding the Queen of Hearts but found the three of hearts to miss $580.00. Secretary/Treasurer Krsnak informed the membership the attendance numbers are at two misses for Jordan Weber’s team and two misses for the Jerry Weber team. Krsnak reminded everyone that football book sales need to be turned in by next week, September 3rd.
President Soukup reminded the members that the District Governor, Bruce Nearhood will the program at our meeting next week.
Program Chair, Margaret Doom, introduced her program, Scott Alderink. Scott told the group about an upcoming concert/event coming to Wagner on September 24th at 7 pm at the Wagner High School. The event is sponsored by the Todd Becker Foundation. The Todd Becker Foundation story began on February 6, 2005, when 18 year-old Todd Becker was tragically killed in an alcohol related car accident as a senior in high school. The shock and devastation from that tragedy forced Todd’s brother, Keith, to examine and deeply consider the direction of his life. Shortly after Todd’s funeral, at age 20, a local pastor reached out to Keith and shared the Truth of God’s Word, which ultimately resulted in Keith committing his life to Jesus Christ. From that, the Todd Becker Foundation was born.
Today, the Todd Becker Foundation and its team travels throughout the Midwest sharing the tragic, yet powerful life and death story of Todd Becker in outreaches to public high schools, challenging students to fully surrender their lives to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Since its inception in 2005, over 100,000 high school students across 14 states have heard the Todd Becker Foundation’s story and message, and thousands of commitments to Christ have been made.
The group consists of 8 fulltime people and 10-12 high school/college adults. The group is requesting people in the community to open their homes to house the staff and students. They need 20-22 beds, a lesser number of bedrooms, 12-14 bedrooms: within a 10 miles radius of Wagner. More details will follow after Labor Day.
Margaret Doom finished the hour out discussing Rotary projects.
We adjourned in our usual fashion by reciting The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say, or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
