Wagner Rotary Club was welcomed by former President Jordan Weber to the August 6th meeting. There were several guests in attendance. Amanda Soukup from Katy, Texas was present with her Mother-in-law Rotarian Linda Soukup; Deb Houseman was introduced by Rotarian Becky Brunsing; Jody Kotab was invited by Rotarian Linda Soukup; Rotarian Patty Frei introduced her Great Niece Sophie Beeson, and Michaela Jones was present courtesy of Alison Woods. All those present gave thanks for the meal and fellowship by reciting the Rotary Prayer.
Song leader Rachel Woods requested that we sing Smile followed by the Membership Minute given by Rotarian Patty Frei. Frei spoke about how Rotary is more than just another club. One of the most immediate benefits of Rotary membership is the opportunity to expand your professional network. Rotary is a continuous learning experience. Rotary is our commitment to service and making a difference locally and globally. Our global presence offers unique opportunities for international understanding and cultural exchange. Family Involvement is especially important to Rotarians and clubs design activities to include spouses, partners, and children. Rotary membership can contribute to your health and well-being by creating a sense of belonging and purpose, essential for emotional well-being. Rotary is much more than a lot of local clubs. Rotary is a global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.
Rotarian Tim Thaler held the lucky ticket for the Queen of Hearts drawing and lost out on $531.00 Secretary/Treasurer Krsnak announced that the Weber Attendance Teams are now tied at nine misses for each team.
Rotarian Patty Frei requested that any Rotarian who was able to come to the Youth golf tournament at Randall Hills please assist in some way to help if possible. Rotarian Linda Soukup announced that she will be “out” for some weeks due to knee surgery and requested an assistant for recording the meetings.
The weekly program was announced by Rotarian Amanda Bechen who introduced the membership to Brylie Link. Brylie is a Senior this year at Wagner Community School. She participates in Volleyball and spends a lot of free time with her baking skills. Brylie has given three pop-up events with the help of Tera Koupal at the old bakery location just around the corner from the Rotary building. Brylie does all kinds of baking and specializes in custom orders of cakes and pies. Her baking skills were acquired as she grew up under the tutelage of her Grandmother Jolene Link. She likes making pies the most and her favorite pie is Coconut Crème. She has baked for breakfasts, birthday parties, luncheons, etc.
As much as she loves baking, her future plans are to be trained for dental hygiene. She plans to continue to take orders and do some more pop-up events in the meantime. She has created a Facebook page titled “Brylie Cakes,” the name given to her by her grandmother. She finds making birthday cakes the most interesting process and likes experimenting with different frostings and colors.
She bakes everything in her mother’s kitchen and ‘”Mom” helps her a lot. She knows baking is a lot of work, but she enjoys it. When asked how she arrives at her prices she considers the price of the ingredients, any special requests as to ingredients, etc. She uses a custom mixer as well as mixing the old-fashioned way by hand. She has participated in some Farmers Markets as well as the pop- up events. It takes her all of one week to prepare for the market events. Her first pop-up event sold out in one hour.
The membership recited The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say, or do to adjourn the meeting.
Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
