The Wagner Rotary Club held a moment of silence in honor of two of our members losing a parent in the past week. Rotarian Jeannie Crowe lost her father Mick Kirwan and Rotarian Rachel Woods lost her grandmother last week. The club then recited its Rotary Prayer to begin the meeting on July 23 followed by an introduction of guests.

Joshua Christensen was introduced by Rotarian Bryan Slaba as the Wagner Community Memorial Hospital’s new CFO (Chief Financial Officer). He is on board and is actively participating in the administration of his duties. Welcome Joshua! The other guests introduced themselves as guests of President Jamie Soukup. There was Clarah, Windsor, and Willow Soukup.

The introduction of guests was followed by the introduction of Alison Woods as a new member of the Wagner Rotary Club. President Jamie Soukup performed the honors, and Alison was given a warm welcome from all the members present.

Assistant Song leader Jeff Doom insisted that the club members try singing “Grandfa-ther’s Clock” once more. Members groaned but were good sports and attempted to sing it once more. Rotarian Doom was delighted and insisted that we “have almost got it!”

The two Weber Attendance Captains have only one absence between them with Jerry Weber having ten misses and Jordan Weber having nine misses.

The program for the day was given by Rotarian Bill Frei. He asked the club membership how many of them read the monthly Rotarian magazine. He stressed that the makeup programs that are on the internet are all from articles in this magazine. The magazine has a wealth of information contained within its covers. Rotarian Bill challenged everyone to accomplish some goals in the next year. He suggested: Try to sponsor a new member every year; book your ticket to Taipei for next year’s International Rotary Convention, volunteer your club for some school programs and think of some project ideas, welcome a young person in your home as a youth exchange, volunteer for community cleanup, and last but not least attend the District Conference in Sioux Falls this fall. Your Rotary dues pay for your attendance. Your only cost for attending will be your motel room.

As a follow up for participation he asked every Rotarian to come and join the Youth Golf Tournament at Randall Hills Country Club in Pickstown on August 7 at 9:00 a.m. There will be Boys and Girls Divisions: 7-9, 10-12, 13-15, 16-18 Lunch will be provided for golfers and pin prizes provided after the tournament sponsored by: The Wagner Rotary Club, So-Co Pioneer, Commercial State Bank and Frei Insurance Agency Inc.
