President Jamie Soukup called his first business meeting to order this past Wednesday. There were two guests present, Alison Woods from Juffer, Inc. and Bryan Lubbers of Yankton, South Dakota. Bryan was a guest of Rotarian Ken Cotton. The membership recited the Rotary Grace prayer, and the assistant song leader Jeff Doom announced that we would try to sing “Grandfathers Clock.” This was met with a lot of skepticism as most members had never heard of this song. Doom did a respectable job of leading the group as we stumbled through a tune none of us were familiar with. It is without a doubt a good song but would require piano accompaniment if we are ever to do it justice. Good try Jeff!

Membership Minute Chair Patty Frei showed members a map of our Rotary Districts in the United States. We are in Zone 29 of Region 36 and the tragic flooding in Texas is in Zone 25B in our Region. We are District 5610 and Kerrville is home to two of District 5840’s dedicated Rotary Clubs.

Their District has activated its 501c-3 Foundation to begin collecting tax-deductible do-nations to assist with disaster relief and long-term recovery. This is the area where the Guadalupe River surged to over thirty feet resulting in the tragic loss of lives and severe damage to homes and infrastructure. This disaster has been on all the news networks and newspapers all over the world. We have been invited to stand in solidarity with Credit Card Donations, checks made payable to Rotary District 5830 Foundation or Zelle Transfers. This was discussed momentarily and will be reviewed again at our next meeting.

Assistant District Governor for our area Bill Frei presented a new 2025-2026 Rotary Flag to President Jamie Soukup. You can view the picture accompanying this article.

Rotarian Katie Henke gave a shot at finding the Queen of Hearts but found the nine of Diamonds to miss $475.00. Krsnak informed the membership the attendance numbers are at three misses for Jordan Weber’s team and two misses for the Jerry Weber team. Secretary/ Treasurer Krsnak also passed out the bill for dues to all members for the last quarter of the previous year. The rest of the meeting was spent discussing business. Craig went over the club’s business report for the past year and items were discussed and tweaked. He recommended no changes to our present financial situation. The club is doing well.

Our steak meal which has been traditional for a long time will be altered a little next meeting as it will be catered by “What the Duck? from Lake Andes. President Jamie will deliver the meal to the club members.

We adjourned in our usual fashion by reciting The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say, or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
