Wednesday, May 14th found the Wagner Rotary members present at the club building with a few absences again. Rotarians are busy people, and this spring/summer is no exception. There were no guests for the day, so Song Leader Gerrit Juffer went right into the singing after we prayed our “Rotary Grace” prayer. It happened to be Rotarian Amanda Bechen’s birthday, so she was serenaded first with the Happy Birthday song followed by all members singing one verse of “Roll Rotary.”

The Membership Minute was devoted to bringing the membership up to date on how to make up a Rotary meeting online. There is a website devoted to helping Rotarians make up for a meeting that they have missed in person. It is found at www.rotaryeclubone.org Frei went through the basic steps of how to navigate this website which is devoted to articles about Rotary topics. After reading an article or two you are required to give your name, the meeting you have missed, the topics you read, and to give a summary of the information you gathered from the topics.

A copy of this information is sent to the Web-based Rotary Club as well as your local club secretary, who in our case is Rotarian Craig Krsnak. Rotarians are given two weeks before and after a missed meeting to make up. Attendance at Rotary meetings is a personal commitment that all Rotarians are responsible for keeping up their own membership attendance. In our case we do this by choosing Team Captains and members for each team and take a count every meeting. At the end of each of the four quarters the losing team is responsible for buying the winning team members meal.

Secretary Craig Krsnak reported that the Queen of Hearts drawing is up to $353.00. Jerry Henke’s team had three misses for the day and Kathe Henke’s team had four misses which leaves them only one miss apart on their teams.

Rotarian Jamie Soukup introduced the program for the day, which was Wagner’s newest business owner, Quentin Bruguier. Quentin is a Wagner native, born here and moved away for a brief period; but came back in the seventh grade and graduated from Wagner Community School.

Quentin is married to Sherria, and they have lived in Vermillion, Sioux City, and Lincoln during their years of marriage. They have four children ranging from 24 years old to eight; and two grandchildren. Quentin worked at many jobs over the years in factories where he was often the manager and worked his way up in the managerial world. He began to think as the years went by that he would enjoy having his own business someday. The Bruguiers now reside in Ravinia.

Quentin would visit Jim Dresden and then his son Marty Dresden when he would get his hair cut and they gave him the idea of going to barber school. After consulting with his wife, Mike Frei at Commercial State Bank and with the former barber at the local barber shop he took the plunge and went to barber school. Frei was instrumental in helping Quentin purchase the barber shop from Marty Dresden and he is now looking forward to having his Grand Opening this coming Friday. There will be a Ribbon Cutting at 11:00 a.m. by the WagnerChamberof Commerce and Quentin will be serving hot dogs, hamburgers, and cookies.

Quentin went to barber school at Lincoln, Nebraska’s College of Hair Design. He is open now on Tuesday and Thursdays in May and June until 3:00. He has been busy as word of mouth is traveling that there is a new barber in town! There will be an online app coming soon but if you would like to make an appointment you can reach Quentin at 712898-6802. He takes walk-ins as well as making an appointment at your convenience. He encourages you to always check with him about times as he and his wife actively follow their children’s activities which was another reason he went into business for himself. They felt they were missing so much of their family life when he was tied to working at the factories.

Bruguier also has a full line of hair products for men. He has been averaging about ten clients per day since opening and one day he had sixteen. It is obvious that Quentin is excited about his new venture and Wagner should be happy and excited for him. Stop in and wish him well next week.

We adjourned in our usual fashion.
