President Jordan Weber welcomed all members of the Wagner Rotary to the March 5th meeting. Jordan offered up a prayer in memory of Scott McAdaragh, a Rotary member for many years who sadly passed away. We will remember Scott and pray for comfort for his family. There were no guests present so Song Leader Gerrit Juffer led the membership in singing to the only birthday recipient for March; Jamie Soukup. Juffer then guided members through singing “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean.” Membership Minute Chairwoman Patty Frei spoke about the International Women’s Day March 8, 2025. The theme for the day is “Accelerate Action” International Women Day serves as a sobering reminder of the numerous hindrance’s women face in their quest for acceptance and representation. This day serves as a reminder for all us to create a society free from bias and discrimination, one that is inclusive and diverse. International Women’s Day is significant in that it draws attention to the gaps that still exist and serves as a reminder of the progress made toward general equality. It promotes conversations about social norms and laws pertaining to women’s rights, including political representation, reproductive rights, and workplace equality. The day is frequently used by governments, organizations, and members of civil society to support initiatives that empower women and to push for legal reform. Women were admitted to Rotary clubs worldwide in 1989 after a US Supreme Court ruling in 1987. On May 4, 1986, the US Supreme Court ruled that Rotary clubs cannot exclude women based on gender. In 1989 the Council on Legislation voted to change the Rotary Constitution and Cy-laws to allow women to join Rotary clubs. In 1990, the number of female Rotarians had increased to over 20,000. In 2010 the number of women members worldwide reached 195,000. Today, women are the fastest growing segment of Rotary’s membership. The first woman to be admitted to the Wagner Rotary Club was Arlene Bich. Rotarian Linda Soukup held the winning ticket number and only found the Jack of Spades. The Queen of Hearts pot is up to $232.00 The attendance race is still hopeless with fifteen misses on the Frei Team and only nine misses on the Cotton Team. The program was given by Rotarian Bill Frei who brought the membership up to date on Distsrict business. Present District Governor Bruce Nearhood will be doing a second year as DG as the Assistant DG will be unable to fulfill his duties. There will be a Scholar Recognition for the WCS Seniors in two weeks at Two Spurs on March 18th. The meeting was adjourned will the recitation of The FourWay Test: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL AND BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
