The Rotary Bell had a staccato ring Wednesday, June 19th as President Becky Brunsing officiated at her second to last meeting. Preparations for a new Rotary year are in the works and Brunsing only has one more meeting before turning the gavel over to a new president.
There were several guests present. Joe Sees, Manager of the Physical Therapy Department at Wagner Community Hospital was there to be the program speaker and he brought the other therapists from the department with him. Present were Ali Kuca, Tim Thaler, Jackson Seitzinger along with Joe.
Assistant Song leader Jeff Doom led the group in singing a prayer blessing for the meal. Doom then instructed everyone to find the Red River Valley melody in our Rotary Songbooks and we did a fine job with two verses.
Membership Minute Chairperson Ken Cotton spoke about Rotaract. The Rotary International board created Rotaract in 1968. The program was designed to promote responsible citizenship and leadership potential in clubs of young men and women, aged 18 to 30. The first Rotaract club was chartered by the Charlotte North Rotary Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Rotaract clubs emphasize the importance of individual responsibility as the basis of personal success and community involvement. Each club sponsors an annual project to promote high ethical standards in one’s business and professional life.
Sergeant at Arms Jamie Soukup announced that he only has one more week to fine members and proceeded to fine Bill Frei $1 for requesting Becky‘s help with the program last week, $2 to Gerrit Juffer for not being present today, $2 to Jordan and Jerry Weber for corralling Kathe Henke’s program members at their table; $2 to Jeff Doom for trying to steal Joe Stedronsky’s drawing money at the table, $2 to Bryan Slaba for singing with the bell and whipping out his wallet. An $8 Happy Fine came from Bryan Slaba who recently attended the 80th Anniversary of D-Day in Europe. He and his wife were present for the ceremonies, visited the invasion beaches, and Paris and London. A $2 Happy Fine came from Kathe Henke who was grateful for Joe Sees putting on the program today.
Ken Cotton had another try at finding the Queen of Hearts but produced only a six of Hearts. He received a scratch lottery ticket for his efforts.
Secretary/Treasurer Krsnak was not present, so President Brunsing gave his report that there were $116 in the Queen of Hearts drawing. There is one more week to tally absences with the Juffer team at 15 misses and the Frei Team at 16 misses. However, the Frei Team had three absences today and Gerrit Juffer was the only member absent on his team.
Rotary business consisted of discussing the recent program given by the Boy Scouts of America starting a new program in Wagner, notification of nominations for District Governor for next year, and a reminder for everyone to come to Rotary next week a little early. We will have our meal and then proceed down to Apparel Worx for a tour of Rachel’s new building.
Joe Sees gave an interesting presentation about the physical therapy department at our WCMH. Joe had brought his team with him, and you can find them in the picture below this article. There were some team members not available for the meeting. Nicole Holzbauer is also an Occupational Therapist, and Ashley Dehaan from Platte, SD is a Speech Therapist at the department also. If you are interested in therapy, it is about a seven-year program. Joe Sees has a master’s degree and he stated that now most programs are a Doctorate Degree. You must keep up on your continuing education programs and your license is renewed every two years.
Sees stated that he has about thirty-five patients a day come through the department. You must go to a Primary Physician to get a referral for physical therapy. When asked about home visits, Sees stated that they don’t happen too often, but he does do them when it becomes too difficult for a patient to travel to the hospital department.
The Wagner Community is extremely fortunate to have Mr. Sees and his well-equipped department for this service to the community.
We adjourned in our usual fashion by reciting the Four-Way Test.
1.Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL & BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
