Wednesday, September 20th found the Rotary Club members back at their usual meeting place after their exciting meeting last week with the “Australian Mob” and our Social Meeting at the Choteau Creek Brewery. A warm welcome was given by President Becky Brunsing and Kathe and Jerry Henke introduced their two guests. Dr. Stuart Todd and his wife Kathy were visiting the Henke’s from their home state of North Carolina. The Todds and the Henkes were good friends for many years in NC and were visiting South Dakota. Dr. Stuart is retired from his occupation as a Surgeon and he and his wife are enjoying traveling around the country.
Pastor/Rotarian Bill Heermann gave thanks for the lovely fall day, the food, the hands that prepared it and for our fellowship meeting. Rotarian Ken Cotton is the Membership Minute Chairman and he announced that he has decided to start at the beginning of our new Rotary Handbooks which are a reference guide for Rotary members. The old handbooks were very detailed, and the new handbook has been given a fresh look with abbreviated explanations of the Rotary Organization. It also contains a special section entitled “Did You Know?” which gives a special detail about Rotary.
Song Master Gerrit Juffer selected “Clementine” as our song for the day. We managed the first two verses quite well.
Sergeant at Arms Jamie Soukup was absent from the meeting so his Assistant Amanda Bechen took front stage and levied the following fines: $2 each to Jordan Weber and Jamie Soukup for winning their little League Football game; $3 to each of them also for doing their first fist bump for being excited about their win; $2 each to Bill and Patty Frei for keeping the Henke’s Australian guests out past midnight last week; $2 each to Jerry and Kathe Henke for not having a stricter curfew for the guests. Happy Fines came from: Jerry Henke $5 for being so happy that Patty Frei missed running over his lodgepole fence last week when they returned the Australians to his house; $2 from Bill Frei as he experienced a combine fire yesterday and was relieved that no one was hurt; Jamie offered $10 via Amanda for his son Windsor’s tenth birthday; $3 from Patty Frei for their participation in the Race for a Reason held in Dante last week; and $3 from Jamie Soukup for his son making a touchdown on his and Jordan’s Little League Football team.
Dr. Stuart Todd, our guest with the Henke’s held the winning ticket number and tried for the Queen but only pulled a five of hearts from the remaining deck. The winnings are up to $135.00. Secretary/Treasurer Craig Krsnak reported that the attendance race is at eighteen misses for the Juffer Team and ten misses for the Frei Team. The winning football book was #91 and the winners were Donna Juffer sold by Jerry Weber, and Kara Frei sold by Jerry Weber also.
President Brunsing covered the District #5610 Convention which will be held next week in Yankton and announced that there will be a Cracker Barrel session on November 11th with the location to be announced later. The Wagner Community Seniors will start attending our Rotary meetings in October also.
Kathe Henke introduced her program which was her Friend Dr. Stuart Todd. Todd was a surgeon for many years and retired at the age of 65. He was a surgeon and an administrator at one time at their local hospital. It was a large hospital with 300 beds and an Emergency Unit. His program was very entertaining as he told true stories about himself, family, friends, colleagues, and patients throughout his career.
The meeting was adjourned with the recitation of The Four-Way Test: Of the things we think, say, or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned: Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
