The July 19th meeting of the Wagner Rotary Club began with President Becky Brunsing giving the rotary bell a whack and producing a weak tone. Rotarian / Pastor Bill Heermann offered up thanks for the rainy day, prayers for consolation on those we have lost, and the food.

The food for the day was our quarterly steak meeting. Once again, the Jordan Weber team lost and paid for Jamie Soukup’s team member’s steak. The steaks were prepared by Super Foods Scott McAdaragh and were grilled to perfection. Thanks Scott, you never disappoint!

Song Leader Jeff Doom hurriedly picked out Down in the Valley for our song and we were horrible at singing it. We certainly miss the Bluetooth accompaniment.

Membership Minute Ken Cotton started his report by quoting Paul Harris from a statement Mr. Harris made back in 1914. “Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves.”

Cotton went on to elaborate about tolerating differences among members of our clubs here and abroad. A statement adopted in 1933 says that some activities and local customs may be legal and customary in some countries and not in others. Rotarians should be guided by a thoughtful avoidance of criticism of the laws and customs of other countries here and abroad.

Sergeant at Arms Jamie Soukup is warming up to his duties as the Sergeant: $2 to President Becky Brunsing for missing two meetings already in her new term as President; $4 to Jerry Weber for his comments last week; $2 to Jordan Weber for trading programs already; $5 to Jeff Doom for being late for the steaks and telling Amanda Bechen to delete his messages; $2 to Bryan Slaba who did not eat a steak; $1 to Scott McAdaragh for an excellent job of preparing the steaks; $2 to Jeff Doom for the awful rendition of our song for the day; $2 to Rachel Bechen for laughing. Happy Fines came from Jeff Doom: $10 for Bryan Slaba and his excellent team at the WCMH; $5 from Patty Frei for surprising her husband with a 50th birthday party; $5 from Jamie Soukup who is relieved his wife is back from a week long conference and he is no longer a single parent; and $10 from Ken Cotton for the happy arrival of a baby boy, Frederick aka “Fritz” Cotton from his son Steve and wife.

Secretary/Treasurer Craig Krsnak was absent but left a report for the new attendance teams which are Gerrit Juffer and Bill Frei. Bill’s team has three misses and Gerrit’s team has four misses.

Rotarian Ken Cotton made a random pull from the deck of cards and produced the Queen of Hearts winning himself $183.00.

There is usually no business meeting when we have a steak meeting but there were some topics of interest: Joe Stedronsky gave a fishing report on his recent trip with his family to a lake in northern Ontario where his family has gone fishing for eleven years. It is a 1,000-mile trip to arrive at Goose Bay Resort. The lake is huge, taking up 1,000 acres in the province of Ontario. The family caught quite a few fish and overall, Joe said it was an enjoyable family outing.

The club decided to participate in the Wagner Chamber of Commerce annual Customer Appreciation Day by serving root beer floats at the City Park on Thursday, August 3. It was also decided to go out to the Rotary Shelter at Wagner Lake after the meal and Farmer’s Market is over and do some maintenance work at the Rotary Shelter.

The meeting was adjourned by the recitation of our Four-Way Test: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
