Wednesday, July 5th was the beginning of Wagner Rotary Club’s 2023-24 year. The new President Becky Brunsing brought the club members to order. Rotarian Craig Krsnak once again filled the Secretary- Treasurer position. The new Sergeant at Arms will be Jamie Soukup and his assistant will be Amanda Bechen.
Rotarian Jeff Doom led in singing the prayer before the meal and led the members in singing two verses of America. Rotarian Ken Cotton gave a presentation of Paul Harris Fellows for the Rotary membership Minute. A Paul Harris Fellowship lapel pin, medallion, and certificate have become highly respected symbols of a substantial financial commitment to the Rotary Foundation by Rotarians and friends around the world. In 2006 the number of Paul Harris Fellows reached the one million mark.
The Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member is a recognition presented to an individual who has contributed $100 with the stated intention of making additional contributions of$1,000.00 A special recognition pin is given to Paul Harris Fellows who make these additional gifts of $1,000 to the Foundation. The pin includes a blue stone to represent each $1,000 contribution up to $6,000. Red stone pins signify gifts of $87,000 to $9,999. This support is needed to underwrite the many programs of the Rotary Foundation that build goodwill and understanding in the world.
The new Sergeant at Arms, Jamie Soukup was happy to start levying fines: $2 to Scott McAdaragh for an old phone infraction, $2 to Jordan Weber for writing a note to Jamie reminding him they are friends; $2 to Ken Cotton for having a huge fireworks display and not inviting the Sergeant; $2 to Rachel Woods for catching 24 catfish; $2 to Jerry Weber for being a construction manager late at night; $2 to Jordan Weber for not joining the Fire Department; $5.50 to Jeff Doom for not shutting the door and for flying a plane too low. Happy Fines came from Joe Stedronsky, $10.00 for having his 95th birthday last week and for going on a fishing trip in the coming week; $5.00 from Becky Brunsing for gaining a new son two weekends ago when her daughter was married; $2.00 to Jerry Henke for his upside down fireworks; $6.00 from Linda Soukup for her visit to the historic Fort. Worth Stockyards and the JFK Memorial Museum in Dallas Texas Rachel Woods held the lucky ticket number but failed to draw the Queen of Hearts. She drew a six of Hearts instead and promptly missed $150.00.
President Becky Brunsing passed out new materials for the upcoming Rotary Year. There was a schedule of meetings for each week; and we will continue to be responsible for picking up the meals and returning the lunch bags for the coming year the same day we have a program. There was also a schedule for committee chairpersons and members, and a list of members for each of the two Attendance Teams. Gerrit Juffer and Bill Frei are the new captains of each team.
There was a question-and-answer session for reviewing last year’s budget appropriations and the coming year. No changes were made to the budget and the budget was approved for 2023-2024. There are fifteen committees and assignment sheets that were distributed.
President Brunsing made a special presentation to outgoing President Rachel Woods. It is a plaque containing a gavel and the dates of her presidential term. Brunsing also passed out new Rotary Basics to replace the old ABC’s of Rotary Booklet. She also gave each member a gold medallion key ring with the 4-Way Test inscribed on the medallion.
The meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be July 12th at the Rotary Building on Main and Second Street.
