The Wagner Rotary Club enjoyed a wonderful Steak meeting prepared by Rotarian Scott McAdaragh on Wednesday; April 19th after President Pro Tem Bryan Slaba called the meeting to order. The Jordan Weber Attendance Team has lost the attendance race three quarters in a row. The losing team is obligated to buy the winning team’s steak as well as their own.

Callie Frei, daughter of Rotarians Bill and Patty Frei was present for the meeting. Rotarian/ Pastor Bill Heermann gave a prayer of thankfulness for the beautiful day with no wind, the steaks and asked for a blessing on all the Rotarians as they go about doing their work in the community.

Rotarian Gerrit Juffer announced that it was his birthday and requested the birthday song to be sung on his behalf and anyone else with an April Birthday. Following that the members sang all four verses of Viva La Rotary!

Membership Minute Chairman Ken Cotton asked all the members if they belonged to Rotary International? After a pause, he said most Rotarians would say yes, they belong. Technically that is wrong. No Rotarian can be a member of Rotary International!

This contradiction is simple. The constitutional documents of Rotary International state that membership in RI is limited to Rotary clubs. Approximately 34,000 Rotary clubs belong to the organization we call Rotary International. It seldom creates any problems or complications. The RI Board of Directors places expectations on and extends privileges to Rotary clubs, rather than to individual Rotarians.

Club members finished their steak meal and Sergeant at Arms Jordan Weber had a list of fines: $5 to Jamie Soukup and Scott McAdaragh for saying they would show up for ditch cleaning and they didn’t; $3 each to Bryan Slaba and Bill Frei over their thermostat war; $3 to Rachel Woods for saying she was disconnected for the week; $2 to Jamie Soukup for the huge amount of steak sauce he used on his steak; $3 to Jerry Weber for being too busy for steaks; another $3 to Gerrit for requesting his own birthday song; and $5 to Jeff Doom for being absent for fines and trying to move the steak day so he wouldn’t miss it. Happy Fines came from Gerrit Juffer of $6.60 for his 66th birthday and $5 from Craig Krsnak in memory of his grandmother who made lemon cake just like the one we had with our steak meal.

Rotarian Gerrit was lucky on his birthday, he held the winning number and tried to draw the Queen of Hearts but only found three of Clubs. Secretary/ Treasurer Krsnak informed Gerrit he could have won $396.00 for his birthday.

There is never a formal program on Steak Day, so time was spent discussing topics of conversation regarding another cleanup day for ditches north and south of town on the highways, work at the Rotary Picnic Shelter at Wagner Lake, our bin full of aluminum cans, and other topics.

The meeting was adjourned with our recitation of the Rotary 4-Way Test.
