Amid heavy snow predictions for the next 24 hours, the Wagner Rotary club held a weekly meeting on Wednesday, January 18th. Rotarians eagerly attended this meeting, as tasty steak was on the menu, in celebration of an tightly fought quarterly attendance race. (The Jordan Weber team once again treated the Club to steak.) In the absence of President Rachel Woods, Treasurer Craig Krsnak called the meeting to order with a rap on the Rotary Bell.
Pastor Bill Hermann offered a prayer of thanksgiving for the food and fellowship, and requested the warmth and safety of our community during the evening’s predicted heavy snow.
Song Leader Gerrit Juffer chose “Let me call you sweet-heart,” preparing Rotarians for the upcoming Valentine’s Day. This year, Jerry Weber intends to present his Valentine with an expensive gift: a dozen eggs.
A Membership Minute was forgone until next week.
Sergeant at Arms Jordan Weber levied the following fines: Bill Frei for catching a 100” marlin ($10); Jaime Soukup and Bill Frei for recent goosehunting excursions ($2 each); Jerry Henke and Kathe Henke because things got so hot at their residence the fire alarm went off ($2 each); Linda Soukup for phone infraction ($2); Kathe Henke for flirting, as she referred to another as “cute” ($2); Jerry Weber for celebrity status, as he’s been featured multiple times on the Cow Guy (RDF-TV) ($6); Amanda Bechen for taking meeting notes on a laptop (i.e. “modern reporting”) ($2); Gerrit Juffer for missed field goal(s) ($4); and, Bryan Slaba for a recent vacation ($10).
HAPPY FINES offered by members include: Bryan Slaba for a first down, beautiful play ($5); Jerry Henke for a Tom Brady related matter ($5); and Jerry Weber for recent quality time with grandkids ($3).
Of Clubbers, Gerrit Juffer suggested prayer for a fellow Rotarian’s spouse.
Jerry Weber’s ticket was then drawn for a chance at the Queen of Hearts, but Weber drew only the 10 of Clubs, forfeiting $239.
Secretary/Treasurer Craig Krsnak shared an attendance report, noting 6 misses for the Jordan Weber team, 3 misses for the Jaime Soukup team.
Other business: Secretary/ Treasurer Craig Krsnak conducted a drawing for annual cash prizes to football book holders, it being end of season. Winners include: Keely Brunsing ($50); Jessa Doom ($50); Will Woods ($100); with hissing and sneers, Kathe Henke ($100); Rick Marshall ($200); and Karen Kuhlman ($200). Grand Prize of $300 each goes to Stan Nedved and Brandon Frei!
In keeping with annual January tradition, each Rotarian verbalized his/her 2023 predictions. Video-recorder Bryan Slaba circled the room, pausing as each Rotarian offered up a handful of predictions related to the economy, commodity prices, politics, sports, moisture, and/ or personal matters.
A good time was had by all and he club adjourned in its usual fashion: OF THE THINGS we think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned.
