Wednesday August 17th was a special day for the Wagner Rotary Club. The District Governor for District 5610 was present for our meeting. District Governors are obligated to visit each Rotary Club in their District at least once during the year of their office participation.
The weekly meeting began with a prayer and another attempt at singing Row, Row, Your Boat which we did very well and singing “Smile” which was not very well at all!
The acting Sergeant at Arms for the day was Jerry Weber who immediately fined Ken Cotton $2 for wearing a very red USD shirt; $2 to Craig Krsnak who admitted to having a mullet in his younger days; $2 to Bill Frei for his pontoon; $2 to Amanda Bechen for her pants which she admitted were very “groovy”; $2 to Joe Stedronsky and Linda Soukup for sitting at the table with the Governor and his wife; $2 to his son Jordan Weber for asking Jerry to be SAA at the last minute; $2 fines to Jeff Doom for several infractions resulting in a total of $10; $1 to every Rotarian who did not wear their Rotary pin to the meeting. The only Happy Fine was from Rachel Woods who proudly announced that school had started, and all her kids are now in school!
Kathe Henke was holding the lucky ticket number and tried for the prize but wound up only winning $10 for drawing a Joker.
Secretary/Treasurer Craig Krsnak announced that the total in the Queen of Hearts drawing has risen to $732.00 Jordan and Jamie’s attendance teams each had misses and wound up with totals of 12 misses for Jordan and eight misses for Jamie’s teams.
The Rotary District Governor performs a significant function in the world of Rotary. A Rotary district usually includes about 45 Rotary Clubs. The DG visits as a helpful and friendly adviser to the club officers, as a useful counselor to further the Object of Rotary among the clubs of the district and as a catalyst to help strengthen the Rotary programs. The DG usually meets with the officers of the local club before the regular meeting. President Rachel Doom turned the floor over to our DG John Schneider who comes to us from his hometown of Le Mars, Iowa. DG Schneider is a hog farmer and lives on the homestead with his wife Carol. The farm is on its fourth generation of Schneiders living on the homestead.
John loves South Dakota and traveling. He has been a Rotarian for thirty-seven years and has held leadership positions during that time. He was impressed with the Wagner Club’s “Membership Minute” and will be taking that to other clubs as an example.
The theme for Rotary International’s 2022-2023 meeting is “Imagine Rotary”. The annual District Conference for our area will be held in Sioux City, Iowa on September 22,23,24. He left registration and program material for all the members.
