Rotary News
On the first Wednesday in June, President Bryan Slaba called the meeting to order. This will be the President’s last month to conduct meetings as our Rotary year ends at the end of June.
Amanda Bechen introduced her guest, Amya Swett who is from Platte. She graduated from Mitchell Vo Tech and is helping at the Bechen and Company business. Rachel Woods introduced her guest, husband David Woods.
Pastor Laurie Kidd offered the blessing on our food and fellowship and asked for prayers and guidance on all the tragedies, the most recent being the deaths of little ones in Uvalde, Texas.
Kidd played a rousing rendition of It’s a Grand Old Flag and Sing Rotarian, Sing!
Rotarian Ken Cotton spoke about Rotary Grants and Rotarian Patty Frei announced that she had applied for another round of grants from the Rotary Foundation and our Wagner Club was granted a $1,500.00 grant in addition to our previous award. The Club has plans to improve the landscaping around our Rotary Shelter at Wagner Lake and provide a reservation information calendar for the public.
Sergeant at Arms Jerry Weber was quick to assess fines. $2 to Amanda Bechen for getting help ; $1 to Patty Frei for a phone infraction last week, and $1 for not wearing a matching shirt to her husband; $2 to Bill Frei for wearing a motorcycle shirt and trying to look like a Hells Angel; $5 to Craig Krsnak for being overconfident about his Husker football teams prospects; $2 to Jamie Soukup for running a Daddy Day Care at his business and not making it to the meeting; $1 to Ken Cotton, Joe Stedronsky, Laurie Kidd and Linda Soukup for having food under their table; $1 to Rachel Woods for finding a stash of money at the head table and confiscating it; $2 to Jordan Weber for delivering coffee to the head table but not to his father. The only Happy Fine came from the Sergeant at Arms himself $2 because of the beautiful rain we had last weekend.
Jordan Weber had his chance at the Queen of hearts drawing but only drew the ten of clubs. The deck of cards is becoming small.
Secretary Craig Krsnak informed Jordon that he had just lost $575.00 Krsnak also announced that with one month left in the fourth quarter the Brunsing Team had four misses today and the Woods Team only had one miss which totals out to fifteen misses for the Brunsing Team and nine misses for the Woods Team. It’s looking bleak for the Brunsing Team.
A Thank You note from Alaina Bechen was passed around in which she thanked the Rotary Club for awarding her a scholarship. Her future plans are to attend Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
President Slaba announced that next week we would have a board/ business meeting with a couple of important topics to discuss. Attendance is urged for this meeting.
Rotarian Rachel Woods introduced her program which was her son, Jackson Woods. Jackson’s Quiz Bowl Team took first place this spring and it inspired him to develop a Rotary Quiz Bowl for our club. The tables were split into four teams with Bryan Slaba, Linda Soukup, Becky Brunsing and Patty Frei being the spokesperson for their group.
The questions came fast and furious, Rachel oversaw the time clock. In the end the Slaba Team won by a hefty margin. We won’t mention the other teams scores!
The meeting adjourned with the recitation of our 4-Way Test:
Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOOD-WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
