Wagner Rotary began its weekly meeting with a prayer by Rotarian/Pastor Bill Heermann. He gave thanks for the little rain we received that morning and for the delicious meal served to the club members.

Rotarian/Pastor Laurie Kidd led the group in singing the first and third verse of “America” and a Rotary favorite “Smile”

Membership Minuteman Ken Cotton brought members up to date on the use of the Rotary Emblem. The Rotary International emblem is officially registered with the US Patent Office as a trademark and “service mark,” which prevents it being used in improper ways or by unauthorized individuals. The Rotary emblem should not be altered or modified in any way.

Rotarians are encouraged to wear the emblem as a lapel button. It is frequently used on jackets, pens, caps, and other personal items manufactured by firms or in dividuals licensed by the RI Board of Directors. Rotary badges, banners, road signs and official Rotary club stationery naturally use the emblem as a mark of identification.

The Rotary emblem cannot be used for any commercial purpose. It is not permissible to use it in a political campaign or in connection with any other name or emblem not recognized by Rotary International. Individual Rotarians should not use the Rotary emblem on business cards or stationery or for any other use intended to promote business. Nor is it considered proper for Rotarians to use the emblem on doors or windows of their business premises.

It is the responsibility of all Rotarians to use the emblem with pride. The restrictions are provided to assure that the Rotary emblem will not be misused and that it will always bring distinction to the organization.

Once again, Sergeant at Arms Jerry Weber was MIA. Jorden Weber, his son assessed the following fines:

$2 to Jeff Doom for an after hours consultation on illness; another $2 for coming to Rotary and possibly exposing everyone; $5 to Bryan for a hair compliment that really wasn’t a compliment; $2 to Jerry Weber for his absence; $2 to Scott McAdaragh for the excellent steaks; $2 to Jamie Soukup for using two lbs. of steak sauce and ruining a good steak; $3 to Jamie again for the Can Money; $1 to every Rotarian missing the steak meal; $3 to Bill Frei for not being dressed up; $3 to Bryan Slaba for belting out the old Lake Andes school song. Happy Fines received were: $5 Happy Fine from Kara Frei for a happy vacation; $2 from Jeff Doom for his quick recovery

The suspense is building for the Queen of Hearts drawing. Rotarian Krsnak announced the amount prior to the drawing had grown to a total of $507.00 The lucky ticket number was held by Patty Frei and she drew a Jack of Diamonds.

The attendance race is following the same direction as the last quarter totals. The Brunsing Team has six misses and that is three more than the total for the Woods Team.

President Bryan Slaba made a presentation of a Paul Harris Fellows Ruby pin to Rotarian Jeff Doom. Doom described what had inspired him to make donations to the Paul Harris Fellows Fund. Several years ago, Roger Wiltz was our District Governor, and each DG must have a special project. Roger’s project was on clean water for the world. In his presentation there was a picture of a small child sitting in a desert area and dying from the lack of clean water. Vultures were sitting nearby waiting. This had a profound effect on Jeff.

There usually are no programs on Steak Day for the club. The extra time is spent on a review of business matters. There was a vacancy created on the Board of Directors as each member gradually rotates toward a specified amount of service. A unanimous nomination passed by the members elected Jordan Weber to the new position on the Board.

Discussion was held on topics including our annual budget, new shrubbery for the Rotary Shelter at Wagner Lake, a new reservation board, and signage for the baseball fields.

Jamie Soukup reported that three Senior girls from WCS helped him take a trailer load of aluminum cans to the recycling center in Mitchell. A big thank you to those girls.

Please put your aluminum cans in a sack and deposit them at our trailer parked on the west side of the Rotary building next to the alley. The money received from this project goes to our Senior Scholarships at the end of the school year. THANK YOU to all community members for donating to this Rotary project.
