The Wagner Rotary Club was welcomed to their weekly meeting by President Bryan Slaba. Guests for the day were introduced by Jeff Doom who brought his wife Julie (who also delivered the meals for the club), Ed Kirwan who was Jeff’s program, and Mick Kirwan, Ed’s father.

Our weekly prayer was offered up by Pastor/Rotarian Laurie Kidd who gave thanks for the moisture we received even though it was small we were grateful.

Club members sang the first and fifth verse of The Battle Hymn of the Republic, a favorite of everyone!

Rotarian Ken Cotton gave a Membership Minute on the Month of April being Rotary’s Magazine Month. The public is probably not aware of the fact that every Rotarian around the world gets a monthly “The Rotarian” as a reward of their membership. The magazine is full of articles about Rotary membership, club activities, and upcoming events all over the world. It is an interesting magazine that is eagerly awaited and read from cover to cover by Rotarians.

Sergeant at Arms Jerry Weber had a brief list of fines for a change. Most of the fines dealt with Jeff Doom for his age remark about Linda Soukup at last weeks meeting, about his wife Julie, about her bringing the meal, bringing extra people to the meeting, and finally requiring his program to fly from Reno, Nevada to South Dakota. Weber was lenient and only charged Doom $1 for each offense which amounted to $5 total. $2 assessed to Jerry Henke for a dress comment about vests.

Rotarian Joe Stedronsky was lucky again for a chance to draw the Queen of Hearts. He managed to lose by drawing the Queen of Clubs. Stedronsky lost $461.00

Secretary/treasurer Craig Krsnak announced that the final total for attendance was seventeen misses on the Brunsing Team and fourteen misses on the Woods Team without much chance of the Brunsing Team being able to recover the extra losses. A member must make up a missed meeting within two weeks on either side of the date of the missed meeting. Most of the Brunsing misses occurred weeks ago.

Rotarian Doom introduced his program given by Ed Kirwan. Ed was born and raised in South Dakota right across the river at Pickstown. His father, Mick is well known around the area. He thanked the club for allowing him to speak about his life’s passion which was mining. He became involved in mining many years ago where he was involved with a mine in Vancouver, British Columbia, one in Nevada, and three in Mexico. He retired after 36 years. While the pandemic began to slow things down, Ed began to get a little bored and got involved in Geothermal Energy. He found it to be a fascinating topic. Just one United States geothermal plant can generate one megawatt enough electricity to power ten thousand homes, and the whole plant can generate enough power for 350,000 homes!

Ed went on to explain the entire geothermal process which was highly technical material. It was far above this recorder’s ability to translate successfully by shorthand. Ed promised to send an abbreviated version of the material to me for the newspaper, but it has not arrived in time for the deadline for The Wagner Post.

So, we will close this report with our usual statement: Of all the things we think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
