Vice President Becky Brunsing welcomed the Wagner Rotarians to their weekly meeting on Wednesday, February 23rd in the absence of President Bryan Slaba.
She welcomed the visiting Seniors from WCS and asked Rotarian Bill Herrmann for a prayer. Rotarian Bill gave thanks for the day despite the bitter cold and asked for a blessing on the members to go out and be an example in the community.
The WCS Seniors visiting for the day were Alcista Dion, whose parents are Dan and Sarah Dion. She has not firmed up her post graduate plans yet. Arianne Gabato who parents are Marivel Pena and Albert Pena plans to attend USD and major in Medical Biology and hopes to enter the Geriatric field. Isabella Kreber, whose parents are Amy and Mike Blaha also plans to attend USD and study psychology and substance abuse. Tawi Star Comes Out parents are Veronica and James Star Comes Out. Both Tawi and Arianne Gabato speak other languages and treated us to warm greetings in their native tongues.
Rotarian Laurie Kidd got everyone engaged in singing America the Beautiful and Roll-on Rotary.
Rotarian Ken Cotton gave a Membership Minute presentation on the Rotarian 4-Way Test. It is one of the most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics in the world. He impressed on the Wagner Seniors that this is a code of ethics that all people can live by in their personal and business lives.
Sergeant at Arms Jerry Weber had a lengthy list of fines once again: $2 to Bryan Slaba for harassing him last week; $2 to Patty Frei for a three-hour tour that she did not give; $2 to Kara Frei for her cell phone buzzing last week; $2 to Jeff Doom in hopes that he gets a hearing test; $4 to Linda Soukup as a welcome back. Happy Fines were: $10 to Gerrit Juffer for being on vacation; $2 to Joe Stedronsky for introducing himself while eating; $2 to Bill Frei for stealing four postage stamps, $2 to Laurie Kidd for the great singing; $1 to every Rotarian for all the ink pens running out of ink for Jerry.
Happy Fines were: Gerrit Juffer $48 for 48 years of being an Eagle Scout; $5 from Kathe Henke for Jerry Henke and Jamie Soukup clearing off the snow from our stairs outside; $2 from Amanda Bechen for not getting a fine this week.
Jerry Weber held the winning ticket which everyone suspected was a little shady, but he only drew the six of clubs.
Rotarian Becky gave the attendance report in the absence of Secretary-Treasurer Craig Krsnak. The Brunsing and Woods teams both had one absence for the day for a total of sixteen misses on the Brunsing Team and eleven misses on the Woods Team. The totals were not accurate as the Sec./Treasurer did not send in a report.
A Thank You card from Geri McAdaragh was read for our gift to her for cleaning and helping serve meals at the club.
District Raffle Tickets were handed out and will be due back on March 23rd. They are $10 each and are genuinely nice prizes. Contact a Rotarian for a ticket. This takes in Rotary Clubs in a four-state area.
Rotarian Bill Heermann was Program Chair for the day. We were a little short on program time, so he gave a book report on “The History of Christianity” by Tim Dowley. He touched briefly on the topics of what does it mean to be a Christian and where did the early Christians meet; and, what influences on worship came from the Jewish religion in the early days of Christianity.
The club adjourned with the recitation of the 4-Way Test:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it building GOOD-WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
