The Wagner Rotary Club met on Wednesday, January 19th for its regular, but very cold, weekly meeting. President Bryan Slaba welcomed everyone and thanked them for staying even though the furnace wasn’t working and the temperature was 57 degrees. Guests were Kristina Ymker of Armour, South Dakota who currently works for Rotarian Amanda Bechen and is also an EMT for the Wagner Ambulance Service and Rotarian Rebecca Brunsing introduced her guest Roberta Haar Duke who was back visiting family from the Netherlands.
Rotarian Pastor Laurie Kidd offered up thanks, even in the cold we should be thankful siting Martin Luther King Day and that we should all love one another.
Rotarian Kidd then led us in America the Beautiful followed by requesting (demanding) all Rotarian’s put their song books down and sing Smile from memory.
Rotarian Ken Cotton shared a Rotary Foundation philanthropy statement.
Rotarian Jerry Weber, Sergeant at Arms proudly took the podium for the first time in three weeks to announce:
$1.70 fine for Jeff Doom for 17 days in Kawaii then $2.00 for leaving the lid up on the toilet followed by a $2.00 fine for conducting business on the phone in said bathroom then the kicker was a $2.00 fine for conducting business on the phone while in line for food thus holding up a Rotarian and her guest from getting their food. After much feedback as to a fine of only $1.70 for 17 days in Kawaii, Rotarian Doom proposed to pay a total fine of $10. While in the throes of fining Rotarian Doom it was observed and reported to President Slaba by Rotarians Patti Frei and Kidd that no one was taking minutes. This created a $5.00 fine for President Slaba as he was to take the minutes but got wrapped up in the moment and forgot and Sargent at Arms Weber was required to repeat the fines. Good help is so hard to find these days.
In relation to Rotarian Doom’s fine, Rotarian Amanda Bechen was fined $2.00 for squealing on Rotarian Doom.
Rotarian Jerry Henke was fined $2.00 for “sticking” a piece of paper in front of Sargent of Arms Weber and Rotarian Jamie Soukup saying “sign”. Rotarian Weber is still wondering if he sold the farm.
Rotarian Soukup was fined $2.00 for not taking his hat off at the table that was until Rotarian Pastor Bill Heermann sat at the table. It’s still unknown if Rotarian Heermann mentioned it to Rotarian Soukup or if Rotarian Soukup finally realized his major etiquette faux pas’.
Rotarians Jerry Henke, Joe Stedronsky and Ken Cotton were fined $2.00 each for using the song books while singing Smile. Come on guys you should have it memorized by now.
Then the most egregious fines were levied for using steak sauce on Rotarian Scott McAdaragh’s absolutely perfectly cooked steaks, shame, shame!!! A $1.00 fine each for Rotarians Brunsing, Kidd, Jamie Soukup, and two to be named later as the recorder (President Slaba) couldn’t keep up and will need to review at next weeks meeting.
Rotarian Patti Frei offered up a $5.00 happy fine for being back for the first time in three weeks while Rotarian and Sargent at Arms Jerry Weber offered up the same.
Guest Roberta Haar Duke drew her own lucky ticket for the Queen of Heart but that’s where the luck ran out, she drew the four of clubs. Better luck next time. As a note this is the second time in a row that Roberta has drawn her own number.
Treasurer/Secretary Craig Krsnak was not present so President Slaba informed Roberta she missed out $295.00! Bummer, but then President Slaba reminded her that drinks are free on international flights.
Rotarian Brunsing reminded President Slaba that we were to draw for the year end NFL football book winners. Two $300, two $200 and two $100 winners were selected. The names cannot be released without their permission so look to next week’s minutes for the lucky winners.
There was not program as this was steak week and team Woods paid for team Brunsing’s steak, oh and their own.
President Slaba informed the club that we would be hosting WCS seniors starting February 5th as we will be issuing our predictions for 2022 at the January 26th meeting.
President Slaba then led the club in ending the meeting with the reciting of the Four Way Test
