ROSENBOOM REIGNS, MYERS NABS NUMBER SIX, TOMKA AND PFEIFER SCORE THEIR FIFTH FRIDAY AT WAGNER

A large crowd on a perfect summer night witnessed a great show, as 59 cars signed in to race Friday night at Wagner Speedway. The Property Solutions of America MSTS 360 sprint car series highlighted the event, presented by Valley Pump and Casino and Ultimate Shine Car Wash of Wagner and Tracy's Paint and Body of Parkston.

The Roth Custom Farms Hobby Stocks would be first on the card and the outcome would not be decided until the final lap. Kaylb Brunssen (LeMars, IA) started fifth and took the lead following a restart with three laps down. Brunssen had been dominating the event, until a caution flag waved on lap 14. With the field bunched back up on the restart, Matt Goth (Huron) was right behind Brunssen when action resumed. The two were racing each other hard, until their cars made contact with each other on the entrance of the back straightaway, sending Brunssen spinning into the infield. Goth, who started eighth, would go on and take the checkered flag for his first win of the season at Wagner. In victory lane, Goth explained the situation on the last lap. "I don't know, it was kind of a racing deal, kinda came down the track, I didn't know what, it just happened so quick. I feel bad for whatever happened. The late restart really helped but he (Brunssen) walked away from everybody. He was the fastest car out there, I just got lucky." Following Goth were Tony Fetterman (Elk Point), Pierce Vander Pol (Corsica), Jim Ross (Sioux Falls) and Derrick Scott (Geddes). Mike Grass (Yankton) was the hard charger, passing nine cars to take sixth and heat races were won by Derrick Scott, Matt Goth and Pierce VanderPol.

The Ponca Valley Seeds Sport Mods rolled out next and Josh Pfeifer (St. Paul, NE) would continue his winning ways. The second-generation driver has taken the green flag five times this season and all five times, the event has ended with him taking checkers. After starting sixth on the grid, Pfeifer advanced three spots following an early restart, then two laps later, made his move around Dudley Schroeder, Jr (Armour) on the low side of the track to take the lead and cruise the rest of the way. Pfeifer saw an opening and took advantage. "When he got up there (on the track), I thought I'll just have to go down and make my move there and it worked. On that restart I cranked my brakes clear to the back and tried to heat them up and tried to jab them real quick so I could turn it down the race track to get underneath him." Dudley Schroeder, Jr would have to settle for second, with Wes Hochstein (Randolph, NE), David Johnson (Columbus, NE) and Devin McMartin (Canton) rounding out the top five. Johnson, in his first visit to the speedway, was the top mover, advancing nine spots from his 13th starting spot and heat races were won by Kendell McCarthy (Naper, NE) and Josh Pfeifer.

The Butte Implement B-Mods began the evening with a couple brothers tied for the points lead. Tyler Myers (Alexandria) and Camden Myers (Ethan) had combined for nine feature wins with the eldest, Tyler, scoring five of those. Friday night, Tyler rolled into victory lane for a sixth time, taking advantage of some bad luck for another driver. Tanner James (Mt. Vernon) had a stronghold on the lead and was in line to pick up win number one, but the actual car had other ideas. As the James machine slid up the track just a bit, Myers took advantage and picked up the victory from his seventh starting spot. Myers said it's been quite the week for this team. "We had an awesome week putting this new body on. Last week I kind of struggled here, but we got it figured out and won two at I-90 Speedway and now here again. Everyone at the shop were there every night just trying to improve it. Just because you're winning races doesn't mean you're fast. Ya gotta keep working at it, because they'll catch up to ya." Myers also knows he had his hands full trying to catch Tanner James. "I'd rather have him here," said Myers. Wade Wright (Ravinia) finished a strong second, followed by Kyle Pecena (O'Neill, NE), Camden Myers and Anthony VanEverdingen (Mitchell). Heat races were won by Raymond Bigge (Armour) and Camden Myers.

The C & B Operations of Wagner Late Models 15 lap event was decided by turn two of the first lap. Doug Tomka (Stanton, NE) rocketed to the point from outside the front row and never looked back in the non-stop event. Pole sitter Jared Hoerle (Chambers, NE) would settle for second, followed by Eric Vanosdall (Hoskins, NE), Brand Vogt (Pierce, NE) and Gale Vogt (Yankton) rounding out the top five. Heat races were won by Jared Hoerle and Brad Vogt.

The main event of the evening would bring fans to the edge of their seats, as Jody Rosenboom (Rock Rapids, IA) would take top honors in the 20 lap event. With average speeds during heat races topping 103 miles per hour, the main event would shape up to be fun to watch. Rosenboom led the opening lap of the event, but Gregg Bakker (Sioux Falls) would put extreme pressure on the leader, finally taking the point on lap three. Rosenboom would not be denied though, countering with a move off of turn four to regain the lead and the eventual win. With Rosenboom having clear sailing in front of him, behind him was a much different story. Elliot Amdahl (Flandreau) charged from fifth to take second in a feisty battle with Eric Lutz. Brant O'Bannion (Viborg) was also coming into the mix and crossed fourth with Bakker settling for fifth. "That was fun", Rosenboom said in victory lane. "I started where I needed to start, I could start hearing people at the end, I had a little left in the tank but I was just trying stay in control and stay straight and drive my race. If someone was going to get by me, they were going to have to work for it." The win was the first of the season for Rosenboom and he becomes the ninth different driver to win a MSTS feature event in 2020.

The night started rough for Ryan Bickett (Ramona), when his car needed an engine change following hot laps. The night ended with a better note, as he and his team claimed the AutoLand Hard Charger Award. Heat races were won by Justin Jacobsma (Hull, IA) and Elliot Amdahl.

Wagner Speedway will wrap up the 2020 racing season with a Labor Day doubleheader, Friday night and Monday night for Season Championship night. Friday night's action will begin with hot laps at 7:15 p.m. and Monday night will be an earlier start, with hot laps beginning at 5:15 p.m.
