ROADS REMAIN CLOSED IN COUNTY

By

Due to the additional heavy rain and high water, many roads remain closed in the area. The wet conditions and previous damage inflicted from the March flooding have left many rural gravel roads unsuitable for travel. Road repairs are simply not possible in the wet conditions, as the heavy equipment required to perform the repairs would cause additional damage in the effort.

With the latest storm forecast, extra precautions should be taken as deteriorating road conditions are expected. Plows may have a difficult time clearing snow from the soft roads. Emergency services may struggle to respond as quickly as normal due to the poor road conditions so travelers should ensure they keep their gas tank full and pack an emergency kit if travel is absolutely necessary. Some suggested items to include in your emergency kit are:

- Jumper cables - Ice scraper

- Blanket

- Cat litter or sand for enhanced tire traction

- Car cell phone charger

For a more detailed list of supplies to include in your emergency kit, please visit www.ready.gov/car.

Drivers are urged to heed barricades and use alternate routes whenever possible. Drivers should also be aware and considerate of unmarked wet and damaged roads and avoid them if possible. If you see high water, please don’t attempt to drive through it.
