Rich Dufur retired after dedicating almost 22 years of service to Mike Durfee State Prison and the Department of Corrections. Warden Brent Fluke commented that "Rich carries himself in the utmost professional manner and while he has high standards for those he supervises, he expects more of himself. Rich cares deeply for his family and when we talk he always provides updates of his children and grandchildren. Lt. Dufur also cares for his co-workers, always taking time to meet the new preservice class and off insight and direction to officers who are just beginning their careers".

Lt. Dufur began his career with the Department of Corrections June 16, 1997. In October of 1999, he was promoted to Cpl of the Custer Project. On January 22, 2000 he returned to MDSP as Cpl, serving in his position until December 16, 2005 when he was promoted to Gt. On December 14, 2007 Rich was promoted to Lt.

Lt. Dufur was instrumental in the creation and management of the DOC chainsaw program, creating its curriculum, training staff and inmates to ensure the program sustained safety standards. On numerous disaster deployments, the state benefitted from Lt. Dufur and his guidance and management of the chainsaw program.
