The Wagner American Legion Greer Post #11 is proud to announce their 2025 Unit Legionnaire of the Year, Danny Rezac. Not only was Danny chosen at the unit level, but in the district competition, he was named District Legionnaire of the Year. He will now compete at the state level at the State of South Dakota American Legion’s annual convention in June. Rezac has been of great service to his local unit. He participates in the yearly Legion Labor Day stand; is a member of Wagner’s Honor Guard that pays proper tribute to his fellow Veterans that have passed; is a backup bugler for Vietnam Veteran funerals; assists with the putting up and taking down flags in the park during military holidays; works the concessions at the annual American Legion Sweepstakes; helps prepare his designated month’s Legion supper which includes bringing a salad and dessert; and attends all monthly Legion meetings. Playing an active part in the Wagner and Dante communities is also very important to Danny. He is an active member of the VFW Post 4319 and assists the post in putting American flags on the graves of Veterans in both the Wagner and Dante cemeteries. As a proud member of the Assumption Parish Church of Dante, he has helped organize the yearly concession stand and has helped paint the interior of the church’s fellowship center. He is also a member of the First Catholic Slovak Group (FCSL). Besides the organizations that Danny is involved with, he also helps many individuals and families within his community. Danny drives friends to their doctor’s appointments; weekly he helps his neighbor feed their pets and farm animals; has taken care of livestock and chores for neighbors that have had to be hospitalized; raises a large garden and shares its bounty with his neighbors. Overall, Danny is an outstanding citizen of his community who is always willing to help when and where needed. Rezac has also served his country with six months of training and one year of deployment to Vietnam. He was drafted in 1969 and served as a Marine. Danny has been a member of the Wagner American Legion for the past four years. Congratulations, Danny on these well-deserved honors.
