Rep. Caleb Finck SD House of
Representatives District 21
We are now across the 1/2 way mark in the 2019 legislative session. This coming Monday (2/11/19) will be the 21st legislative day out of a total of 40 legislative days this year. This also means that things will be getting busy with committees and the floor because we are 2 weeks away from cross over day. Cross over day is the legislative day in which every bill must have passed its house of origin. For example, if a bill was introduced in the House it must have either been killed or it needs to have passed both the House committee that it was assigned to and the House floor. With that being said between now and then we only have 4 regularly scheduled committee meetings for each committee and I anticipate that there may be some evening committee meetings happening so that we can get our work done on time. Additionally, the House agenda is beginning to get longer as the committees pass legislation down to us to vote on. Monday (2/11/19) we have about 25 bills to consider and it is likely that we will not get through all of that in one day, so we may push some of it to the next day.
I also would like to give you all an update on one of the bills that I told you about last week HB 1145 which was one of my bills. After a very good debate in the House Transportation committee HB 1145 was sent to the 41st day, effectively killing the bill. I was commended by many and asked to keep working on the issue for next year and that I shall do.
Please continue to reach out to me as you have questions or concerns about any legislation that we might be voting on, I appreciate all of the input. You can reach me by phone or text at 605.933.2042 and by email at Caleb.Finck@SDLegislature.Gov, have a great week!
