The Lady Pirates open the basketball season with a win against Gregory. The double header game in Corsica set for this past Tuesday night was postponed because of weather. Representative Lee Qualm was honored at the South Dakota Soybean Association Banquet. Lenore Williams and Lynn Stather attended the Holiday Open House of the business “Dwell 605” in Platte on Friday which has been started by Lenore’s granddaughter, Amanda Bloch. THE JOLLY RODGER — The high school band and chorus group went to the Denny Sanford Premiere Center to watch a Stampede game and the mixed Choir sang the National Anthem. Senior Spotlights: Alex Balvin— His favorite subject is math. Lifting weights and hunting are some of the things he enjoys to do in his spare time.

Funeral services for Adolph Rehurek were held at the First Presbyterian Church on December 6. Campbell’s Ozark Country Jubilee from Branson will be in concert at the Avon Gym on January 12. The “Bundle of Beef” drawing for the Meadowiew Manor Fund Raiser will be drawn on December 22.

The Calvin Finck home burned to the ground on Friday night while the family was attending the basketball game in Avon. The Fincks have 3 children at home: Kayleen, Jerry, and Joel. Avon wrestlers lost the first ever wrestling match against Wagner. The new home of Mr. and Mrs. Jean Hebner came down Main Street this week. It was built in Mitchell. Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Bochman were held at the First Baptist Church. She leaves 5 daughters, Folda, Pearl, Edith, Alice, and Sylvia. High score bowlers this week are Mike Kotab—225 and Carol Powers—202

The Grade School Operetta, “Hanssel and Gretel” will be given December 18. 75 children will be in the play. Miss Maxine Vandervoort and Leland Stedronsky were married on Thanksgiving morning in Wagner. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dick Oorlog. Milo Weking has transferred from Spearfish to Springfield Normal for the 2nd quarter.

A.W. Egges and family will live in Frantz’s home and start up a new dray line. Dr. Hollingsworth sold his car to S.W Luke. Today it was 22 below zero. Special Sale on Christmas candy — 2 pounds for 25¢ at the Avon Mercantile.
