The Ravinia all school reunion was held at the Ravinia, SD Fire Hall on June 24, 2023. Decorating started at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning and social hour started at 3:00 in the afternoon.
Carl Soulek began the program with welcoming the 69 alumni and guests and led in reciting the pledge of allegiance. Jan (Schmidt) Schiferl read a poem about the school and prayer written by Richard Dvorak. A delicious meal of brisket, ork loin, (grilled by Soulek), baked potatoes, green bean casserole, brownies and cherry bars (prepared by Wagner Super Foods) was enjoyed by all.
Ernie Ray Bures, master of ceremonies, shared memories of his history with attending school and living in Ravinia for 20 years. In fun, he couldn’t resist using names of people in the crowd to reminisce different activities. Dave Honomichl gave the foundation report. Jan Schiferl and Jean Ann Barkley talked the Ravinia fire fighters into participating in a musical skit, “What Did They Say”. The evening ended with the former cheerleaders coming forward and leading everyone in singing the School Song, “On Ravinia”.
We would like to recognize former teacher Shirley Ridgway. We appreciate firemen, Ron Lensing, John Otte, Curtis Soulek, Nick Stotz and Austin Weber for helping us out.
Alumni came from not only South Dakota, but Nevada, Iowa, Wyoming, Kentucky, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, and Texas.
We appreciate the committee members Jean Ann Barkley, Jan Schiferl, Wanda Anderson, Ernie Ray Bures, Carl and Loretta Soulek. Thank you Jan Martin for taking class pictures and all who helped clean up. See you next year!
