RAIDERS SEND SF CHRISTIAN HOME WITH THE LOSS

By
Coach Mike Koupal

Last Thursday the Lady Raiders hosted the Chargers from Sioux Falls Christian in girls basketball action. “This was a highly anticipated with two state qualifiers from a year ago. It was also another 10 day break in between games.” The Raiders started off fast once again opening up a 20-6 first quarter lead. Wagner took a 31-15 lead into the half. Wagner clamped down on defense in the third allowing only 2 points taking a 45-17 lead into the 4th quarter. The Raiders would win the game 62-29. Wagner scorched the nets shooting 64% from the field while holding the Chargers to 23%. Wagner dominated the boards 34-15. The Raiders dished out 25 assists in the game. Leading all scorers was Shalayne Nagel with 18 points, 4 boards and 3 assists. Ashlyn Koupal recorded another double-double with 14 points, a game high 13 boards, 4 blocks and 3 assists. Macy Koupal was the third Raider in double figures with 10 points, 4 boards and 2 blocks. Emma Yost finished with 9 points, 10 boards and 5 assists. Eve Zephier finished with 7 points, dished out a game high 11 assists, and grabbed a team high 3 steals. Lydia Yost would finish the scoring with 4 points, 2 boards and 2 assists. “This was a all-around great game for our girls. We needed to control the glass and did an awesome job. We stuck to our keys on defense and forced them to their weaknesses the majority of the time which helped hold them to 23% shooting. A strength of SFC is offensive put backs and we didn’t allow them to score that way. Our transition offense was outstanding! We moved the basketball quickly and got easy looks on the offensive end. 25 assists nearly gets all of our 62 points. Very unselfish play from out girls.”

The JV was defeated 6-42. Cadence Bernie, Hazel Jensen and Hayden Fischer each scored 2 points.
