The Wagner Red Raiders hosted the Redmen of Sisseton Friday night. It was win number two on the season for the Raiders edging their opponent 14-0. The Raiders rolled up 281 total yards of offense on the night, while only allowing 69 yards on the defensive side of the ball. These young men are continually growing and becoming more confident in their positions. We still had some costly penalties, but they were effort penalties not lack-of-focus penalties.
On the offensive side of the ball, the ground game was led by Jhett Breen with 148 yards on 28 attempts. Jhett also had the Raiders two touchdowns on the night. Jhett has become a very patient runner, letting the blocks happen in front of him, and it is paying dividends. Chris Nelson added 60 more yards on the ground. In the passing game we were 8-16 for 64 yards. Javion Pesicka had a reception for 24 yards, Bain Kuhlman added 17 yards on 3 receptions, Riley Roberts added 17 yards to the offensive tally. On the defensive side of the ball, the Raiders held the Redmen to 1.6 yards per play. We had 13 defenders recording tackles Friday night. Leading the defensive effort was Parker Petry with 7.5 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, and a sack. Glenn Cournoyer had 4 tackles on the night from the corner position. Karstyn Lhotak, Gannon Knebel, and Jace Kuhlman had 3 tackles on the night adding to the sack and TFL totals. We are getting great push up front with the defensive line. They are creating havoc in the backfield. Coverage wise the DBs are breaking on the ball from top down in their zone. Riley had the lone interception on the evening, getting depth reading the QBs eyes and breaking on the ball.
I am extremely happy with the effort these gentlemen have been giving. It feels good to celebrate on the W!!
