RAIDERS HOST LMVC CONFERENCE FOE, AVON

By
Coach Michael Koupal

The Lady Raiders hosted the Lady Pirates from Avon last Friday during Holiday Break. Avon jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, but Wagner offense would catch fire mid-way through the second to hold a 17-14 lead after the first quarter. Wagner stretched their lead early in the second to 26-14 but then would go on a four and half minute scoring drought and hold a 28-22 lead into the second half. The 3rd quarter was an offensive struggle as the Raiders would edge the Pirates 9-6 and hold a 37-28 advantage. Wagner pushed the lead to as many as 21 points and came away with the win 51-34 over one of their LMVC conference teams. Ashlyn Koupal surpassed the 1,000 point barrier and would lead all scorers with 18 points, 16 boards, 6 blocks and 6 assists. Macy Koupal also reached double figures with 13 points, 5 boards, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Lydia Yost would finish with 8 points and 4 boards. Braxton Nedved would net 6 points and grab 2 boards. Hayden Fischer would add 5 points and 5 boards. Aniyah Fields rounded out the scoring with a point. Wagner would shoot 19-48 for 40% while the Pirates would go 16-57 for 28%. Wagner controled the glass 34-29 and both teams would commit 16 turnovers.

“Defensively we did a much better job the second half allowing only 12 points. We didn’t let their leading point getter score in the second half. We saw signs of great ball movement also in the second half where we were making extra passes quick without hesitation and getting even more open looks. Our transition game was really working as that was something we lacked against Ethan. Great job ladies! We wish everyone a Happy New Year!” JV Ladies

The JV ladies would hold a a 15-11 halftime lead and Avon would erupt for 20 points in the third to claim a 31-26 victory over the Lady Raiders. Rico Fischer would lead all scorers with 10 points. Mateya Bruguier would finish with 9. Ravyn Medricky and Jazlyn Lhotak would each finish with 3 and Brooklin Nielsen would round out the scoring with 2 points.
