QUIZ BOWLERS EXPERIENCE HEARTBREAKING LOSS AT CHAMPIONSHIP QUIZ BOWL MEET

On Saturday, January 8, the Avon quiz bowl team traveled to the Pepsicola Theater in Mitchell. Quiz bowl consists of a three-man team competing against another school by answering questions of various subjects. Whichever team answers six questions correctly first is deemed the winner.

The Avon team consisted of seniors Makayla Kopp and Lincoln Thury, and juniors Sarah Swier and Kimberly Tolsma who participated on a rotating basis to fill out the three-man team. As coach Paul Kuhlman was occupied watching the Bison football team in Frisco, Texas, Carol and Ron Swier chaperoned the team.

The quiz bowlers entered the competition undefeated, where they took on the Mitchell and Huron High School teams. Unfortunately, the team lost both matches 3-6 and had to travel home defeated. For their efforts they did, however, receive $135 for the Avon High School science department.

“I am very proud of the Avon quiz bowlers. Thank you for coming. Also, horns up!” said Coach Kuhlman.

Team captain Kopp also said, “I am glad Kim and Sarah stepped up and took on the challenge of quiz bowl. I’m also glad Lincoln could put on his big boy pants and help us out. Thanks to Mr. Kuhlman for always believing in us. Our group had a lot of memories and giggles. Go Yotes!”
