Region girls basketball action started at Avon last week with the Pirates taking on Corsica/Stickney. Avon took the big win 65-44.
Courtney Sees led the scoreboard with 23 points, Rilyn Thury had 20 and McKenna Kocmich 12.
Sees pulled down 9 rebounds and Lila Vanderlei had 6. Thury had 5 assists and 2 steals, and Lila Vanderlei had 5 assists and 3 steals.
The team was 57% from the field with 26 of 46, 52% for 3-point attempts with 11 of 21, 60% for 2-point attempts with 15 of 25 and 50% from the charity stripe with 2 of 4.
The team gave up 14 turnovers for the night which brings their record to 16-5.
Avon traveled to Mitchell for their second game of Region play to face off against Andes Central/Dakota Christian where the Pirates suffered the tough loss 39-54 to end the season.
