The Pirates punched their ticket to the DakotaDome after defeating the DeSmet Bulldogs 46-19 Friday, November 3rd in their final playoff game. Leading the Pirates with 5 touchdowns was junior Aziah Meyer. Early in the first quarter, Meyer ran in a 2-yard touchdown with senior Tyler Tjeerdsma adding the 2 point conversion. Meyer then ran for a 3-yard touchdown leaving the first quarter score 14-0. The second quarter found Meyer running in a 4-yard touchdown and completing the 2 point conversion. Meyer then ran in 1-yard for another touchdown with Tjeerdsma completing the play with a 2-point conversion to end the first half with a score of 30-7. In the third quarter, Meyer ran 12-yards for a touchdown with senior Trace Pelton completing the 2 point conversion. In the fourth quarter, senior Landon Thury scored a touchdown on an 11-yard run with a pass from senior Paxton Bierema. The Bulldogs responded with a 5-yard run touchdown ending the game with a final score of Pirates 46 and Bulldogs 19. Aziah Meyer led the rushing with 26 attempts for 206 yards and 5 touchdowns. Tyler Tjeerdsma had 11 attempts for 48 yards and Landon Mudder had 9 attempts for 40 yards. Leading the defense was Paxton Bierema with 3 tackles and 3 assists, Terran Talsma had 3 tackles and 4 assists, Aziah Meyer had 2 tackles and 6 assists, Alvin Gunter had 2 tackles and 5 assists, Tyler Tjeerdsma added 1 tackle and 2 assists, Trace Pelton had 1 tackle and 1 assist and both Landon Mudder and Noah Watchorn added 1 tackle a piece. The Pirates take on the Faulkton Area Trojans at the DakotaDome Thursday, November 9 at 10 a.m. in the SDHSAA State Football Class 9B Championship.
