The Avon Pirates hit the road Friday night and rolled to a dominant 68-14 victory over Scotland/ Menno. The Pirates wasted no time getting on the board, with Treyvan Talsma powering in a 1-yard touchdown run and adding the two-point conversion. Trent Soukup followed with a 3-yard touchdown run and conversion before Al’Shamon Gunter connected with quarterback Easton Sees for a 41-yard scoring strike, giving Avon a commanding 24-0 first-quarter lead. Avon kept the momentum rolling in the second quarter. Soukup added another score on an 8-yard run, Jamie Pelton hauled in an 18-yard touchdown pass from Sees, and Cale Cooper scored twice, first on a 65-yard reception, then with a 19-yard run. The Pirates led 56-14 at the half after allowing two opponent touchdowns late in the quarter. In the third quarter, Grayson Ratzlaff added a 19-yard touchdown run, and Sees capped off the night in the fourth with a 42-yard scoring sprint to seal the 68-14 win. On defense, #3 C. Cooper led with 4 tackles and 2 assists, Grayson Ratzlaff added 3 tackles and 1 assist, and Gunter made his presence known with 3 tackles, 3 assists, and 2 sacks. Weston Bierema tallied 6 assists, while Pelton and Randall Powers combined for multiple stops. Dominic Doom contributed 1 sack. Ratzlaff also had an interception, Pelton forced two fumbles, and Talsma added one recovery. The Pirates move forward with strong momentum heading into their next matchup.
