PIRATES DEFEAT WOLSEY-WESSINGTON 22-14 TO ADVANCE TO PLAYOFFS

To advance to the playoffs Avon had a big win Friday, October 13 over Wolsey-Wessington 22-14.

The first quarter found both teams scoreless on the board. The Pirates allowed their opponent to scoreinthesecondquarterbutstoppedthetwo-point conversion attempt to end the first half down 0-6.

The third quarter began like the first, with both team holding their opponents scoreless but the fourth quarter had Aziah Meyer adding to the scoreboard as he had a 60 yard run for a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion followed by a second touchdown with a 38 yard run to make the score 14-6. Tyler Tjeerdsma then had a 29 yard run forthetouchdownfollowedbyasuccessfultwo-point conversion by Aziah Meyer to make the score 22-6. The Pirates did allow Wolsey-Wessington a touchdown with a 60 yard pass and two point conversion but took the big win 22-14.

Leading the rushing attack was Aziah Meyer with 15 attempts for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns, Tyler Tjeerdsma had 12 attempts for 66 yards and 1 touchdown, Landon Mudder had 9 attempts for 56 yards, Paxton Bierema had 2 attempts for 3 yards and Noah Watchorn had 1 attempt for 3 yards.

Leadingonthedefense,AziahMeyerhad4tackles and 8 assists, Tyler Tjeerdsma had 3 tackles and 1 assist, Paxton Bierema had 2 tackles and 7 assists, Trace Pelton had 2 tackles and 4 assists, Landon Thury had 1 tackle, 2 assists and 2 sacks, Landon Mudder had 1 tackle and 9 assists, Terran Talsma had 1 tackle and 5 assists, Alvin Gunther had 1 tackle and 5 assists.
