PIRATE TRACK SEASON BEGINS
Track season began for Avon High School and Junior High on Monday, March 14. Weather was favorable for the runners’ first week of practice, and they even got some time on the track.
Head Coach Brad Poppe commented on the start of the season and said, “At the start of the track season, we have 38 high school athletes and 31 middle schoolers participating in track and field. The athletes have been working hard. We are excited about the number because we will have the option to mix some things up in certain events. We have our first track meet on April 5 in Scotland. Our goal, like every year, is to try to get as many athletes to compete at state as possible.” The High School team or individuals have the potential to participate in up to 15 meets this spring including the State Meet.
Five coaches make up the staff for the Pirates. Poppe coaches the middistance runners and jumpers. Dakota Bodden coaches the sprinters. Lindsey Fathke coaches the long-distance athletes. Tim Leibel coaches the throwers. Bailey Lagge is head coach for the middle school team.
